4 Cores not enough for you?

How about 80 then?

Wow.

According to Intel, the 80-core processor is constructed as a "network of computers on a chip". Each of the 80 tiles integrate two floating point engines as well as a router unit that controls the data communication with the other cores
I'm not sure what that means, but it sounds impressive!

Holy expletives, batman (floppyman)! 80 cores! And the power consumption isn't all that bad either!

Hopefully by the time I earn my engineering degree (in about 3 or 4 years) Intel will start to produce that technology (even a die with just a fraction of 80 cores would be appreciated).

I'd like to know what the individual core (die) size is on each of these. I suppose even if's only 65nm, you can still pack a ton bunch into an area less than 1cm^2 (65*80 = only 5.2 micron!). To put this into perspective, Intel 486's had a die size of 1 micron. How far we've come.
