I've seen a lot of pics of it - the interior looks totally trashed and that rear suspension looks totally collapsed. Apparently the concrete crypt was not watertight and this thing was under water for many, many years.

First they have to find the microfilm with the contestant's names, then they have to search the museums for a working reader...

My how things have changed in 50 short years.

I recall riding around in those cars when I was a kid. I was born in '57 and have seen the changes in our world from then till now.

For one, no one in 1957 would have sued if things didn't go their way.

I learned to drive in a '57 Ford station wagon. I owned a '58 Chrysler for a while that was very similar to that Belvedere. Paid 50 bucks for it, it ran, it got me through a summer.

Wow... it does look pretty nasty, eh!?!

So... did they pump up the tires? or are they still holding air pressure??

boy oh boy...poor thing is better off scrapped. Though im sure the engine, transmission could be rebuilt and all the stainless trim is fine. But besides that, the rest of the car is junk. But id bet the winner puts the car on ebay and ends up making good money off of it.

edit: Two, from what ive read the tires needed to be inflated, but still hold air. If they had taken more precautions when it came to sealing the crypt and protecting the car, id bet she would have mere surface rust here and there and would still start up.

There is another time capsule in Tulsa with a 1998 Plymouth Prowler prototype - it's scheduled to be opened in 2048. This time, they used an aluminum crypt, cocooned the car, and pumped the crypt up with inert gas.
