Wedding Gift

I have a friend that is getting married in a little less than two weeks. I have yet to get a gift for him. They are registered on several department store gift registries but since we go a long way back and I'm standing up with him at his weeding I figure I would like to get something unique.

The problem it's been almost a year since I've seen him and I've never meet his wife to be so I don't know what would make a good gift for the two.

This is what I know about him:
He is very conservative and very religious. He's into biking and outdoors stuff. I think, at least the last I knew, he was looking into building his own house. I know he would enjoy something that isn't the status quo for a gift.

I know nothing about her so any ideas for a unique yet somewhat universal gift(I know they are contrasting requirements but I hope you know what I mean) would be great.

I haven't set budget but I can't afford more than $100 or two.

Thanks for any ideas.

It could be something as a reminder of your friendship or the interests that you share. My in-laws traditional present to people is a family bible. One nice enough to keep on a desk or on a display somewhere with places for important events. Something like this maybe.

You could even through in something extra like a Gift Certificate.

I would stick to something on the gift registry unless you know with great certainty something else that he and his wife would very much appreciate.

Well, from how you described him, I think that it would nice gesture to get him a Leatherman Wave tool, and get it personalized. Amazon has them for $60 or so, and then you can go to a Things Remembered shop or similar store, and have them engrave the handle.

Then, you can get a few things for the wife, maybe a smaller leatherman tool, like a "juice" or "squirt" that comes in a pretty color.

The gift doesn't necessarily have to be too unique or costly, as always it's the thought that counts.

You can always buy items off of the registry in case you're not sure what to get, and I'm certain that they will be extremely grateful nonetheless.

Does the woman bake? You can also talk to your buddy about it. Call him up and tell him that you know what to get for him, but need insight as to what to get for the woman. If she doesn't bake, compile a starter set for her.

When one of my friends got married last year I knew that she wanted to bake, but didn't have any of the necessary equipment. So, I bought her a Black and Decker hand mixer, 3 pyrex mixing bowls, a spatula, a Wilton baking set, a Hershey's dessert cookbook, and an $18 gift card to the local supermarket, measuring cups, measuring spoons, and maybe one or two other items.

I'm agreeing with David.
You're buying something for both of them and you're not acquainted with the other half, stick to registry.
You've got an out though.
Brides have bridal showers, as one of the guy's oldest and best friends and as a groomsmen, you can get a special present just for him as well as a wedding present for them both.

I am with Pam and David. Your unique gift, while the thought would definitely be appreciated, may end up in the "oh man..." category and never to been seen or used after the opening.

if you want to do something personal, get them something off the registry that can be engraved with your sentiments to both of them.
