Why the trial version ?

Dell is following through on it's promise to cut down on all the pre-installed software trials is you order your new computer through Dell.com : http://www.theregister.co.uk/2007/06..._cuts_the_fat/

What I don't get is why they're still installing the trial version of Acrobat Reader.
For heaven's sake just install the latest full version of the free reader and be done with it!

It could be just the (poor) wording. It could be looked at as "Acrobat Reader, and a trail version of antivirus software" instead of " trial version of anti-virus software, Acrobat Reader and ..." I don't think I've heard of a trail version of Acrobat Reader...?

I just bought a dell and it came with Acrobat reader, nothing about a trial. Norton was a trial and promptly removed... that was the only real crap installed on the system... I guess there was the Dell update notification as well, turned off.

How do you have a trial version of free software? I just got a Dell laptop and was surprised at the lack of crapware. The only thing I uninstalled was a subscription to McCrapee that came bundled with the warranty care bundle... oh and Google Tools - didn't want that. Vista already has the instant search thing built in.

I agree with TwoRails' thinking - it says a trial of AV software, (comma as a seperation) Acrobat Reader and Google tools.

Dimension and Inspiron systems will still ship with trial version of anti-virus software, Acrobat Reader and Google tools.
If TwoRails is right it's just something and editor didn't catch.
