Tying the knot in T minus...

11 months later, we're down to a day less than four weeks away.

Wish me luck in maintaining my sanity!

On a random note, does anyone have any recommendations on buying a good mattress?

Congratulations and condolences.

Yeah - go to the store and try them. Make sure you keep your clothes on.

congtats and best of luck....

on matresses: if you have a "matress factory" near you, those are similar in quality but lower in price than name brands.

I go here: http://www.originalmattress.com/

but there isn't one in the NYC area tho

I wish you and you're fiancee the best!

If you want to spend the bucks, a Tempurpedic. Yes, there is a lot of hype about this mattress but as far as I am concerned the hype lives up to the reality. The memory foam on this mattress is amazing stuff. I have not slept better on any other mattress in my life..by far. I used to wake up with a sore back occasionally...that has gone away. I also wake up fewer times per night. It took a few nights for the body to adjust to the new feel of this mattress. There are different grades of firmness that you can buy. My wife and I bought the softest grade...it just felt best. These mattresses are still supportive, they just distribute the weight more equally..its hard to describe the difference. It's not like a bean bag chair. Plain old foam like you would find in a sofa is not the same thing as memory foam. There are other cheaper foam mattresses but I have no idea how good they are by comparison. It was worth the bucks to get a better nights sleep so as not to feel tired during the day.

The downside is when you travel the hotel room mattresses always feel like crap now.

lol, thanks guys. I remember posting about the wedding when we first got engaged, but there's no such thing as too many well wishes.

We plan on living in an apartment near my school for 2-3 years so don't want to spend more than maybe $1600 together on a bed and mattress seeing as how we might want to go with different options when we buy a house.

I guess I'll try the types you guys recommended and a few others at the store and then just compare prices from there.

I looked at the Macy's circular yesterday and there were a dozen different mattresses with various names and no other information to justify the different prices. I guess I'll have to go to the manufacturers web pages to get this info?

Yep!

Tahiti (just as a layover until airports open again in morning), Moorea (4 nights), Bora Bora (3 nights). :-D

Don't worry, I have 9-11 Gb of camera memory so there will be plenty of photos. What, I've got to something during the intra-island flights.

In other words, no new computer, tool, or gadget for me for the next 18 months or so.

I second that recommendation. I've slept on every kind of mattress made including a water bed for several years. Our Sleepcomfort is the best thing my wife and I ever did for each other. Each can select a "private" comfort level and "dial it in" for a perfect fit. Had ours for about 3 years now and we both love it. Seems like you can take a free 90 day test drive.

You're not alone, doubledragon5 -- We met and had our first date in August, and were married in December -- this year will be 19 years.

I've known her for about five years. When we get married, it marks the 4 year and 1 day dating mark, and 1 year and 2 day engagement mark.

Two weeks? wow. Then again, my parents met on July 2nd and were engaged four weeks later. This fall will make it 25 years for them. Me and my sister were born less than a year after they got engaged (granted we were twins and 6 week premature).

lol, at this point I have to! I'm moving into campus family housing in a few weeks, and one of the requirements is to have a spouse or child.

Ya and she proposed to me I was to scared I knew we were right for each other, because she wasn't like all the other women I dated.. To her just staying home and watching a movie or going for a walk in the park, or even window shopping was all that cared to her.. Money wasn't a concern of hers. We did go out and watched movies, and dined out, but it wasn't a must do everytime we saw each other..

That's great, these days people get divorced as quick as they get married.. My brother inlaw had a friend that was filing for divorce two weeks after being married.. My two daughters are lucky to have parents still together.. Most kids they now aren't that lucky, if there not divorced yet, they not far away..

For me - 14 years this July 18th. August 2008 my parents 50th... which... if anyone has a Northern CA - non Napa - idea for a group of 10 weekend with nice accomodations, restaurant some leisurly things to do (mum has a bum knee) I would appreciate some hints. I have not been back to Bay area for 14 years now so I sure nothing is the same. Was thinking of Mendocino or Sierra's....why not Napa? No one goes there anymore - it is too crowded...

You can PM me to avoid hijacking the thread...

My wife and I will be married 24 years this September. We dated for 5 years prior to getting married so we've actually been together for 29 years.

Oh yeah...congratulations Stuey!

congrats...

yea too many times mariage can end up in divorce...we would all like to think of a long lasting relationship...

my belief is that if you are right for each other it should be all that much work...it should just flow real smooth with natural comprimise...

I have been married twice now and ready to un-tie the knot again...people just grow apart because they refuse to comprimise...(wife always wants it her way) and things get used as a crutch...

I love to hear about people who have been married for a very long time...I had some friends who had been married for 60years...now thats awesome...

Too many youngers confuse marriage with date night...meaning they marry the person they are dating but soon divorce to move on to the next person in line...just wrong if you ask me...

I dont think I will ever marry again because I havent really seen anyone worth it as far as actually taking the vows serious...

But, I wish you the best of luck and many happy aniversaries....those seem to be the best...

Thanks for the kind words and good wishes!

I have completed the move into the apartment that shall be ours for a while.

Let me just say - I have way too much stuff. I have maybe 350 lbs in weight lifting iron (which I don't utilize as often as I should) alone. Then there's the tool chests with tools, the power tools, the computers, the printer, the bookshelves, the kitchen stuff (of which we're getting a lot more of), the bike, OMG the books.

Why am I making a big deal about the stuff I had to shlep? I'm on the 3rd floor with no elevator and 28 stairs of misery. My fingers are a bit swollen still even after donning some mechanics gloves. I bled a little, and got some blisters.

I went shopping - oy there's so much to put away! Then there's furniture shopping - that comes this weekend and I suppose after the honeymoon too.

EEEK, 10 days away!!

Best of luck to you, my friend... I like Hal's advice.

Hope everything goes well on your big day!

Relationships can be the best thing in the world - I know mine (not married, dating for almost two years) has saved me from driving myself insane. It can work the other way around, but the best way to avoid that is to be open and honest with each other. It makes it so much easier that way....

Don't adopt George, he's a stinky old man
