Summer Projects

Well now that it's summer, lots of people like to get started on projects, myself included. So, I was wondering if any of you guys/gals have been working on any interesting (or not so interesting) projects.

I've been working on a few so far. Last summer I built a nice subwoofer for my soon-to-be home theater, and this summer I decided to add some speakers to match. So far I have built 4 speakers, and there is one more one the way (I'm making a complete 5.1 surround system). I also made a cribbage board to give to my girlfriend for our anniversary (we enjoy playing cribbage together). Finally, I painted my home theater.

I have been pretty busy, but I've enjoyed all my projects. Here are some pics (I need to update a few of the albums which I will do shortly):

Subwoofer
Speakers 1
Speakers 2
Home Theater

So what have you all been up to?

For the smaller speakers (Modula MT's), I used the RS180 plans from HTGuide.com and same for the Modula MTM's. For the subwoofer, I used 142L Shiva plans (not sure where from, Hi Ho gave them to me, actually) with the Dayton Reference 12" High Fidelity Subwoofer.

I'm trying to fabricate an expansion of my computer case and a front bezel from scratch. That's about it for now.

Your sub looks fantastic!

I'm starting to design a build a console for my truck.

I've added power door locks to my truck.

Next will be adding an AVIC D-3, and two Boston SPG555's on separate 2200 watt Interfire amps to the soon-to-be-mine Milan we have sitting in the driveway. The discount I get working in car audio really makes this a feasible adventure.

Nice job on the sub boxes - did you have specs to go from or did you just experiment to find the best sounding enclosure?

ryan, Like I said I had plans, but they weren't mine. Here are the plans. I made the 142L ported version. I'm not sure if that was the best enclosure, but it works.

Rev, I need to wash my car too, but we're supposed to get rain, so that may have to wait.

Well, I'm getting a new guitar soon. Gonna be doin' a little bit of paint work. For those into guitars, the new Highway 1 series Fender Strat. Aside from just the paint, I want to stick a humbucker in for the bridge pickup. I'll mostly be using it in a church band, so while it will be nice to have the Strat sound, I need something a little more "Les Paul-ish" to get that "wall of sound" thing going. It should make for a good combo I think.

Other projects on the go...I'm about to nail my tail dragger rating out at the airport. Only three more flights to go. I think that's about it for now...

after cutting grass every saturday, thats not going to happen.

as far as projects go. trying to get a theme for my home office. its going to have my computer (of course) printer. but it will also have my 32in lcd, dvd player, some prints on the wall. i havent figured out if i want a neutral color with a border.

i also need some storage in there. i have disassemble computer parts in bins and the bins are stacked on top of each other. i really need a space for all that, but i like having it in this room. no garage or toolshed to work in. i may have to invest in one tho.

Nice cribbage board!

The guitar I am banking on is a sunburst...you'll find it here: http://www.fender.com/resources/pric...Winter2007.pdf

Page 14.

I want to get some wings on the bottom of it. Something elegant and not very busy, nothing too wild, and black if I go with the sunburst. The nice thing is that the guitar has a satin finish, so I won't need to worry about clear coats or anything like that.

Well I have added a new receiver ( Yamaha RX-V2700 ) and a projector ( Mitsubishi HD-1000U ) to my "home theater". I also redesigned the crossovers in my speakers and built a third for use as a center.

Projector

Speakers

Subwoofer

I built the screen for my projector using Do-Able board, a coated MDF board that was highly recommended on AVS Forum for being an excellent screen material. It works great! There are no hotspots and I couldn't ask for a better picture! The video scaler in the Yamaha receiver works surprisingly well and DVD's look amazing on this setup. I haven't taken any screenshots in the dark while playing a DVD. It's really difficult to get a clear shot of a projector display in the dark.

I just bought a new car, a Mazda 3, so I've been a bit tied up with that lately. I find reasons to drive places.

The next major upgrade for my theater system will be a new TV but that is a ways off.

Nice photos, guys!

Am I the only one that doesn't know what a cribbage board is? At first, I thought it was something from Harry Potter but wikipedia taught me otherwise!

Hi Ho, your screen looks very nice. I was going to build one, but then I got a free one with my projector, so I figured I would use that instead.

hitchface, I like that sunburst finish. My brother had that on his Fender Di'Armond (sp?) and it looks really cool.
