A bucket of purple prop wash...
So I once witnessed a particularly humorous joke take place. I was getting my glider's license, and during a training day, one of the instructors asked a student to go get something. He was told that he had to go ask another instructor for a bucket of prop wash "...the purple stuff, not the blue..." she said. The student was also to ask about the location of 50 ft. of flight line.
Of course, the student being very VERY green in terms of the aviation world, wanted to impress the instructor and come back with the right stuff. He goes and asks about, gets laughed at by about 30 other people (we are mean, eh?), shakes it off, laughs at himself and walks off to nail some unsuspecting student with the same joke. For those of you who don't get it, prop wash is in no way a fluid, but rather the slip stream of an aircraft...a wake in the air caused by the propeller. Flight line isn't something you can retrieve, but an area where aircraft can be parked, loaded, serviced, etc. not including the taxiways or runway. In an airshow they can use the term to describe the area in front of the crowd, over top of the runway. Anything like this joke happen to you or anyone you know?

Ya at work. When I first started at this new paper co, they had different names for the jobs or products we made. They were named differently then the type of paper I was use to making at another plant.. Rolls of paper come in different sizes and widths. So we would just say I need a roll or 32" good stuff meaning a good roll from the warehouse.. Well at this other plant it was referred to as a deckle.. I was asked by the operator of one machine I was helping to go and get the deckle stretcher.. So I went and asked a bunch of guys where is the deckle stretcher.. They all just laughed so I went on and on and on... I finally figured it out.. You can't stretch a roll of 32" to 45", so hence no such thing as a deckle stretcher...

Once I went camping and went snipe hunting. I was told to climb up in a tree while wearing a big bird costume and be the lookout/bait. For some reason the others got spooked and ran off. Whatever spooked them must've scared off the snipe...cause I didn't see a single one all night!!

Oh heck, when I did steel work, we would send rookies for the beam stretcher, the rebar rebender and the skyhook. My dad told me when he worked for Pepsi, he sent a guy out for checkerboard spray paint and a 5 gallon can of compression.

Can't forget the blinker fluid...
Of course, in the computer world there is the ID-ten-T error, and PEBKAC is a good error too. Tell a new tech you're getting those errors and watch them scratch their head about what they mean...

When I worked for a municipal water system years ago a chief engineer would send new guys out for a bucket of anhydrous water. I didn't fall for it! LOL

Don't forget your tweeter dimmers for your car audio needs.
"Straight from the stereo of Dionysis, the Tweeter Dimmer is the solution for your overly bright highs! Reduces the brightness of tweeters, without reducing their volume. Truly a fine product for the truly dim!" Oh, and the adjustable powerband. Can't get a car without a good adjustable powerband these days. |

Here are some more:
The third leg to the deviation table. A metric crescent wrench. 100 feet of waterline. A left handed monkey wrench. A gallon of checkered paint. A bacon stretcher. In Sea Scouts we used to send newbies from boat to boat looking for these things. You would be amazed at some of the things the other boats would give them to bring back. It was always good for some laughs.
