I'm not taken in by Potter-mania and I find reading books an utter bore so I shan't be reading it. I'll watch the movie, though, absolutely. I watched the 5th one yesterday and I found it thoroughly entertaining, but that's for another thread.

I won't be standing in line, but I will be getting it soon. I read the first four around when they came out. I started the fifth one when I took with me on vacation last week, and it resparked my interest in the series. I finished the sixth one last night just in time for the 7th. I'd have to say they're really hard to put down once you start them because I just read those last two in a span of a week.

The Order of the Phoenix movie was absolutely horrible if you've read the book. It was like they flipped through the pages, found some highlights, then rewrote the plot to keep the story going.

From start to finish I could count on one hand the number of things that were actually kept intact from the book. I hope Rowling demands a new director for the next one. Many of the things they left out / rewrote were key elements for book 6 - they'll have to spend half of the next movie straightening everything out so it all makes sense (that is if they decide to go back and be faithful to the story this next time around).

Cho didn't rat out the D.A., her friend did. She and Harry broke up over Hermione, not because she told Umbridge. The dementor attack occurred at night in the beginning when Harry and Dudley were alone, he would have pulled out his wand in front of the other kids. Dumbledore fought everyone in his office before he went into hiding, he didn't simply run away. The centaurs were angry because one of their own went to Hogwarts to teach when Professor Trelawney got sacked, not because they were simply riled up like Hagrid claims in the movie. They didn't even include the centaur, which doesn't make sense because he's the reason Trelawney begins drinking and accidentally tells Harry about who ratted out his parents to Voldemort in the sixth book. Where was Harry's interview with the Quibbler? The interview that helped turn the tide in the public's opinion about the ministry?

I could go on and on, but it's not worth it. I understand that movie adaptations from books are never identical, but when you plan on making 7 movies, you ought to keep the story straight at least. She wrote everything the way it is for a reason, with certain things foreshadowing / tying in with the plot of the next book.

Maybe if you read the book, you'd understand.

By the way, some fun news:

I'd like to know when they track this guy down, just for the sheer hilarity of it.

LOL...I don't think I'm a Harry Potter fan as I've never read any of the books or keep up with the Harry Potter news...but I do like the movies and have the first 4 DVDs and I've watched each one several times already. I don't know everything about Harry Potter or any of his friends and I can't quote lines from the movies...but I do think the movies are entertaining and fun to watch. I'm looking forward to the next DVD release.

I follow the same path as Cricket... I like the movies... I waited until the surge of lineups died down before seeing them. I don't own the DVD's though, but wouldn't mind getting them. I'll wait until Blockbuster has the used ones on sale cheap.

My mom likes 'em almost more than I do. Pre-ordered it from Amazon for her as a birthday gift...no lineups for me! I'll just read it when I go home. Should get to her by the 21st.

EDIT: Definitely voted #4.

I'm not really a book reader - ADHD and amblyopia as a child do not exactly add up to a lot of reading - so I never picked up the habit.

That said, as an adult I do enjoy the books - I actually just ordered the first 6 books from the British publisher. The British version of each book has a children's and adult's version. The adult versions (same content) have considerably nicer covers that the children's version available from either the British or American publisher.

I'll need to go to Costco Saturday AM anyway - if they have the new book I'll pick it up there.

Well, contrary to my post I did indeed pick up the book. I was at Barnes and Noble yesterday looking for a Northern CA travel book. I flipped to the last page and read it and then put it back down. No need to read all the rest now.

I tried reading a Harry Potter book. It never caught my interest. I am more of a science fiction type. I do enjoy the movies though.
