car stereo install help
hey guys, i need a little help installing this amp/subs in my truck. i had them in there for about a year now but i changed a few things trying to make it sound better and now im stuck. its been awhile since i've done much of anything with electronics and am having troubling figuring out the best/propper way of hooking this up.
i have a 4 chan 600 watt Jenson amp and 2 15" 250watt RMS subs. the amp is my buddies, he knows way less than i do and because of that he hooked it up wrong and blew up 2 of the channels, leaving only 2 working. the subs are 4 ohm each and the amp can handle 2,4,6 and 8ohm speakers. the way it was hooked up was NON bridged "4 chan" mode which was only pushing 75watts per sub @ 4 ohms. if i bridge them i get 200 watts @ 4 ohms which would work fine if all 4 channels worked.... but since they dont im thinking i could run the subs in parallel on the 2 working channels. would this work without hurting anything? the subs are 4 ohm each and in parallel they would be 2 ohm total, the amp would be setup to run 200 watts @ 4 ohms..... so would 2 ohm speakers work on a 4 ohm amp? if i remember right it will, it will just double the power output making it 400 watts @ 2 ohms, correct?

Halving the resistance will not double the power of an amplifier. Maximum power is a function of the amp and not the speaker resistance. You can only get so much power from any sort of amplifier before you burn it up. I would not risk putting only 2 ohms of resistance across a 4 ohm amplifier. Remember you need to go larger in wire gauge when you drop the resistance causing twice the current?..given the same voltage. (Ohm's Law)...imagine all those wires getting overheated inside the amp from the excessive current.
Instead get two, 8 ohm subs and put them in parallel...this will amount to 4 ohms of resistance across the amplifier. ...and don't forget you're ear plugs.

don't get two 8 ohms subs , loose the jensen amp . even if its day wasn't past its still a jensen amp you should be able to get a cheep 2 chan Rockford or something instead of it .
