¿Donde esta Stuey?

Let's face it, I like to talk. Most of you have probably already noticed that I tend to produce long and wordy posts sometimes. Well, you'll have to do without my verbose posts for about two weeks.

So where will I be?

Tomorrow, I will be getting married.

On Monday (my birthday), I will be leaving from a local hotel and going via plane to Tahiti.

We should be arriving sometime on Tuesday. Later that day we're taking a local flight over to Moorea.

Then, a few days later we're flying over to Bora Bora.

When I get back, I'll post links to photo albums in this thread. I've got 9GB of flash memory, 10 sets of batteries, and a set of rechargeables! A woman that went to Europe for 2 weeks took 9000 photos. Let's see if I can beat her! :-D

Talk to y'all when I get back!!

lol, you can count on that! I will not spend even a minute on the internet! Haha, I'll likely have much much better things to do.

At first I was like, oh goodness I can't understand that. But I do! Well, I had to guess the meaning of saludos, but the rest was cake! One of my office mates is from PR so I've been catching up on my spanish slowly but surely. It's been maybe 7-8 years since I've taken any spanish language studies, but hopefully I'll bring my grammar and vocab up to par.

Anyways, thanks for all the well wishes again. I'm just really really excited and anxious about tomorrow so I'm trying to find ways to keep busy.

Have fun on the honeymoon trip! Don't worry about the pictures. On a honeymoon you're supposed to be too busy or too "relaxed" to be doing too much else.
Get in the water, have a good time, then come back. The forums will still be here!!

I learnt to speak Spanish whilst living in Puerto Rico. I never studied Spanish in any way just learned it during everyday life. I have noticed many different dialects throughout Latin America and especially mainland Spain.
I checked with my wife, who is Puerto Rican and obviously naturally Spanish speaking, before making my post and she confirmed it was correct.
Just a case of different dialects.

lol, thanks again guys. So for it's been interesting and mostly fun. She's been a good influence so far and I noticed myself in hindsight trying to impress her. I just hope that I can live up to my personal expectations.

I knew the first part, and I know what nueva esposa means especially since we used those phrases during the trip. We were in a French speaking island so we spoke in mangled spanish for fun.

It's the saludos and abrazos that confused me a bit. The first time around I thought that you meant besos especially since there was a typo at one point. I think originally you said brazos? Eh, I confused myself. And then I thought that saludos meant hugs. But now it makes more sense. Saludos = close to the word salutations, and brazos = arms so abrazos = with arms, or hugs.

Yup, this is a good start at a marriage. Give 60% and take 40%. Without thinking about it, I let her use my new 21" LCD while I was stuck with the puny 15.4" laptop screen. hehe. I made more efforts than that, but I figured that you guys would appreciate a computery example than a story of me making the bed or washing the dishes.

Photos!!

Honeymoon Teaser Photos Set 1

Enjoy!
It'll take a while to go through photos to make a proper album or add descriptions, so I hope this is enough eye candy for a while.

I was in Brittany in France recently and I found lots of locals that spoke quite reasonable Spanish so much so that I was able to communicate better than my friend and his dreadfull attempts at French. (my French is appalling so I didn't even try )

Lovely photos Stuey (especially the sunsets)

Just about all of the hotel/restaurant/excursion staff spoke english so it was okay that I only know <10 French words and phrases.

A Japanese couple tried to communicate with us in English and we met a few French couples who were pleasant and nice and offered to take photos of us when they saw me struggling with reverse shots.

But for the most part, a lot of the non-english peaking tourists kept to themselves and we were left to seek out other Americans/Britons etc./Candians/Australian folk.

We were tired of hearing so much french so we spoke in Spanish for fun. If we do that more often, I might be motivated to relearn all the grammar and vocab that I have forgotten.

Don't forget, these are only 12 out of ~2200 photos not including the several hundred that my wife took! I also took 3 disposable underwater cameras but have yet to get those developed.

The sky proved to be difficult to shoot. Either the sky was overexposed or the scenery was underexposed. So that's what took a lot of memory space - adjusting exposure settings to compensate and try to get the perfect shot.

I think that the turtle shot is my favorite. I took that as we were coming back via boat from a shark & ray feeding and snorkelling excursion.
