Car Audio installation cut fuel line

So I got my car audio installed at 'Visions Electronics'. They drilled a hole for the ground wire but unfortunately they drilled into a fuel line.

I have been driving around like this for a few days.... Can I make them pay for the repairs?

Unless you have a very old car, fuel lines are under fairly high pressure an dthe gasoline would literally be squirting out and would be quite dangerous so I'd getter fixed ASAP. Yes, they should pay for it, but it may be a case of you-say-they-say. Take good pictures of the damage if you have to go to court (if the repairs are expensive).

But... just curious, where is the damage? It seems strange that installing audio would be close to any fuel line, except maybe in the truck.

It's a brand new car. 2007 City Jetta. I'm not driving it since I found out. It's in the dealership. They are the ones who found it. The engine light came on shortly after the installation. They indicated no gasoline was squirting out but did present a hazzard and a small risk of severe hazzard (a risk none-the-less). I've been trying to get a hold of the manager of where it was installed but I keep getting people that don't want to deal with it and that I have to try calling back at another time.

Parts have to come in so that's why it's at the dealership. I'm getting it fixed but was just wondering if someone else ever ran into this before and scoping all my options.

yes they should definitely pay for that , its probably just a return line and thats why fuel didn't squirt out like crazy .

but ya they should pay for it to get fixed ,visions is usually really good for such things .

Call your insurance company today. Let them deal with the problem. They will come out and look at the damage. They will then tell you to go get it fixed. You're insurance will then go after the car stereo installers insurance company for the cost of the damage. Make sure your insurance company will write a check directly to the garage for the costs so you don't have to float a check for them.

You're insurance company will fight for you if it will save them money and they are much more skilled at it than are you.

Thats why you have insurance...so you don't have to deal with hassles like this yourself.

Glad to hear you're not driving it and it's getting repaired: gasoline is not to be taken lightly.

But, to answer your question above, yes, I've done something similar. While working in a dealership I was installing an air conditioning system to a sedan and managed to run a sheet metal screw right thru a brake line. It was fixed at my own cost the proverbial second the screwup was discovered.

i screw up all the time , the other day i ran over a 8d battery with a skid steer . the company pays for it the main thing is you catch what you have done and fix it , the shop pays for it . i don't work in car audio but i work in the heavy duty trade . same idea just bigger .

im sure david is right , i would of just went to the audio shop and made them pay for it . if i couldn't get them to id be mean and send in my dad .
