Internet Cable Help

I recently got 1000Ft of Cat 5 E cable thinking it would be enough for w/e i wanted to do w/ it, but this is the first time I've ever had to put the ends on by my self so... i looked it up on the internet and found 2 ways to do it, straight Through and Crossover so i wired a straight through cable like this
http://www.lanshack.com/images/568-B.gif
on both ends like the internet says to, but i have to have a store bought wire connected to the router then connect my wire to the store bought wire for it to work otherwise the light on the router that says there is an internet connection blinks on and off but with a store bought wire the light stay solid.

Make sure you terminated the ends properly. It shouldn't be easy to pull the connector off by hand. Make sure all the wires are touching the metal contacts at both ends, and are in the correct order.

Double check that you have them exactly as show on both ends.. it's sometimes easy to get some accidently flipped around when you are sliding them in. Give the crimper several firm squeezes. If no go, you may need to chop them off and try again. Also, I'm assuming you don't have a cable run longer than 300 feet.

The ends are on tight and the tester thing says it is in the right order but i don't really trust that thing it doesn't alway work but all of the wires look like they are touching on the metal and they don't come off.
