how to clean up hotmail account

ok, so ive had my hotmail acct for many many years and now i have had to switch over to gmail because somehow (and im not sure how) im getting a crapload of spam email messages. I realize i could just block the messages but they usually come from different addresses all the time. Is there anyway to clean my inbox up permantly so i dont have all this crap coming through? Im guessing its just a lost cause but any help be much appreciated. thanks!

all you need to do is instead of just deleteing them, place them in the junk folder, and soon you will not be getting them any more.

because of the length of time you may not have been doing that, it may take a while.

I have had my hotmail account for over 10 years and I do not get any spam at all now.
on another system I was getting some on a regular basis but now its down to about 1 or two a month, soon there will be none on that one..

also make sure that your using the latest windows live hotmail too.

crap, well apparently some of my messages have been going into the junk email folder and one of them i really didnt want there. Thanks to this i just missed a free listing day for ebay. I have my junk email filter set to low too so not sure why some stuff is going in there that i dont want there also, i tried windows live hotmail and dont really like it. Wont even let me click on the link when i get a notification that someone has replied to my pcmech topic. have to copy and paste. that's annoying.
also, why wont hotmail let me order my inbox msgs by size or date (see attachment). used to be able to click on size or date and they would put them in ascending or descending order. Thanks for the help bailey.
