Hummus
This may sound a little random but I sure do love posting in the General area of the forums =] Anyways, I have found out that not many people know about hummus. I've come to figure this out! Does my good PCMech family know/eat hummus? I for one love it so much.
So what do you guys think! Tom =]

I thought hummus was that stuff you mixed in with potting soil when planting new plants to help loosen up the dirt a bit. Or maybe that's humus, with just one M. Either way, I don't eat it.

Hummus or hummus bi tahini (Arabic: حُمُّص; Hebrew: חוּמוּס; Armenian համոս) also spelled hamos, houmous, hommos, hommus, hummos, hummous or humus) is a dip made of ground chickpeas, sesame tahini, lemon juice, and garlic.

I have tried hummus a few times. I was never able to develop a taste for it.

Hummus, tofu, bean sprouts, dog poop are pretty much all in the same category for me.

Never heard of it. But every time I read the word I think "humans" so it's grossing me out a little.

I love mid eastern food. Hummus, Falafel (sp?), Babaganush (sp?), and Dolmas are all on the top of my list.
Lack of spell check brought to you by my wonderfully craptacular office computer that has no Firefox, and is still using IE6 because the military refuses to upgrade to the proper software.

![]() For a while there, I thought I had really lost it, so I went Googling. Here's a couple links to the kind of humus I was thinking of. Apparently it's like compost and made of decayed vegetable matter. Hope that's not the same stuff you're eating by the carton full. ![]() http://www.compostguide.com/using_hu...ganically.html http://aggie-horticulture.tamu.edu/e...1/art3jul.html |

Heh, well Hummus certantly doesn't taste like dirt! =P
Anywho, my favorite brand is "Tribe", although others like Cedars. I personally like thicker Hummus, which is a similar consistency to Tribe. Cedars is more of a watery Hummus. If anyone if looking for a good healthy snack, check out Hummus. I began eating it becuase I HATED creamcheese and such, yet wanted something to spread on crackers. Give it a shot! It's kinda expensive but they're usually some good sales on them at larger stores like Big Y or Stop & Shop. My favorite flavors are : Crackped Pepper, Jalepeno, Roasted Red Peppers, and my all time favorite "40 Spices". As you can see I like spicy foods =P. Try it out! Tom! =] |

I'm going to miss not having a Trader Joe's now that I'm in Joplin. I used to buy hummus and pita chips there all the time.

This is a funny thread
-- I've tried it a few times and it's "OK" ... unless it's the type juppy has -- The types I've had have been different flavors from one-another, and there seemed to be a big difference in consistence and taste... unless one of them should have been tossed out like sgtspector mentions!

My wife likes the stuff but to be honest, I haven't tried it. My grandfather makes it from scratch for my mom and aunt sometimes too.
I like falafels and shawarma and all the good stuff except for middle eastern salads. Those have too many tomatoes for my liking. I LOVE middle eastern chili sauce!

Hummus is some tasty stuff. I make my own batch on just about a weekly basis. I like to dabble with all sorts of flavor combonations. My last invention was cilantro, roasted red pepper and choptle. Good stuff let me tell ya. I like to have it with the sun dried tomato and basil wheat thins.

This thread is making me realize I need to get out more. I guess I'm more of a steak and potatoes kind of guy, yet have never been afraid to try new foods.

... or maybe it was the cracker.. ![]() Seriously, though, I have had some that wasn't too bad, it was spicy and kinda tasty actually. Just never picked it up again. I don't think my "better-half" even tried it. |

Well, I can honestly say I've *never* tried it. I mean, somebody posted above about it being chickpea paste??....until I went Googling, I didn't even know what a chickpea was! Said it was the same thing as a Garbanzo Bean......THAT, I've heard of, but still never tried.

You'd be supprised how many people don't know what a "chickpea" is. I tried to explain hummus to my friend and he didn't know what a chickpea was either!

IMHO the garlic that's often added to hummus is key. w/o garlic, it might as well be the potting soil type :-)

I like the "Garlic Lovers" Hummus, not sure of the brand off the top of my head, I know there is one brand I like more than the others though. My wife and I enjoy spreading it on pita bread to eat it. I will have to look for the "Tribe" and "Trader Joes" brand.
