Suggestions on Email

Hello IT experts and geeks, I need your suggestions and opinions. Actually, the company I work with wanted to have a change in our current email system. Currently, we are using MS Outlook and exchange server. I have some suggestions here but I would like to gather more information from you guys. Here are my few suggestions to the new email system:

1) File sharing capability which is not found in MS Outlook
2) Instant Messaging system which is not found in MS Outlook too.
3) web-based email with more functionality

These are the only suggestions that I can think of. Could you assist me to provide your suggestions too? Thank you so much.

1 & 2 are not normaly associated with email. They're different animals.

#3 - what other functionality do you "need?"

I don't know how big your organization is, but how have you checked Lotus Notes/Domino as a possibility?

It's difficult to answer your question without knowing what versions of Exchange and Outlook that your org is running.

Exchange has the ability to do IM. Outlook 2007 as part of Office 2007 uses Groove which provides some pretty good file sharing capabilities. Sharepoint also from Microsoft allows you to share files.

We are in the process of migrating all users to Exchange 2007 which has universal messaging capabilities. It allows you to check voice messages in Outlook or it can read your emails, contacts or calendar to you over the phone. It takes a pretty beefy server but is pretty cool.

Hey guys, thanks for all your replies. I will take a look at lotus domino but our company may not look into this as the cost to implement it is very high here. I have not been inform yet of what kind of email system we would be changing but my boss only wants ideas from me before he goes ahead with the implementation.
