Question Looking for a program

Hi all,

I'm looking for a program that will let you record your cd's, while playing them, straight to .wav files (i.e. don't rip the tracks off first then convert, do it while playing the cd). Is there such a thing? I tried it with the wav studio software that came with my SB Live Platinum but it didn't seem to work when I hit record, I got nothing recorded when I played it back. The OS is win2k. Thanks in Advance!

Floppy,

I think WinAmp does this, you need to change the output to Disk Writer or something similar and it will create the .wav file as you listen to the song. I don't remember the details exactly, but I know I did it on accident before, it took me a while to find out why I always had a bunch of huge .wav files of the songs I listened to.

Thanks Dr., I always winamp to play and and turn mp3's into .wav files but I don't use winamp to play audio cd's (for some reason it doesn't work to well for me in win2k). Is there another program that will do the same (record .wav files, while playing the cd at the same time?) Thanks again.

Well, I got adventurous and tried doing what you suggested with cd's and winamp. Didn't work with winamp. Even when I changed it to diskwriter plugin, it still played the cd, but didn't record a .wav file in the destination directory I specified (does it have to play the whole song first to record a .wav file, or can I stop it in the middle and it will record up to that point?). Am I doing something wrong, or does this not work with cd's? Thanks again.

You're right Floppy, I just tried the Disk Writer plugin now myself with a CD and it doesn't work. It makes a .wav just fine from an .mp3 but not from a CD. You may want to search through the plugins on WinAmp's site, there may be one that does what you need. The only other program I know of is CDex. It can rip the CD tracks to .wav or .mp3 format, but not while playing the CD though.

Send a message via ICQ to Gintaras
EZ CD Creator's Spin Doctor, or better, Cool Edit Pro or Cool Edit 2000.
Cool Edit 2000- I'll be using to record LPs to HDD as .wav.
