Apple slashes iPhone price

http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20070905/...NGQf7995is0NUE

My marketing Prof. was right but I didn't think this would happen this quick. $200 is a pretty large cut.

Don't care...I still prefer a data network that's multiple times faster than AT&T (even when/if AT&T becomes real 3G).

Yippee!!!.... still not getting one tho.... I do think they are pretty cool... and want one.. but it would end up being this toy that I don't use 95% of what it can do.

That one is being saved for Bill Gates. Because it is smaller than the Zune he carries around in the bed of his pickup truck. Steve just likes rubbing it in.

Funny the market sold off AAPL today. Apple will sell more units now. With the price cut, Apple is still selling the iPhone for more than its unit cost by $100.

I feel sorry for those who bought one for $600, but doesn't this happen all the time when the demand at original price is almost saturated?

Well the new ipod is now essentially an iphone without the phone capability. I think I might pay the extra cash if I were going to get one and get the phone as well.

Apple really needs to add more memory for the iPhone to be taken seriously as an iPod replacement. I think eventually they will as the price for flash memory drops.

In an open letter Jobs has said that he understands that apple should be kind to early adopters and is issuing 100 dollar rebates to customers.

The Ipod "Touch". Oh man, guess all the over privlaged kids at my school are going to have to force their parents to buy the "sweetest ipod ever" so they can try and look sweet.

I mis-spoke. They are not giving rebates. They are giving store credit in retail and online stores.

I said just a week ago that the iPhone was too expensive. I spent 400 on my Slvr when I got it. I will save my money for the iPhone. There would be no reason for me to get the iPod touch. with the iPhone only 100 more why not get the "phone" function.

I have no sympathy for those who bought it two months ago. If it was worth $600 then why is it not worth that now? Crybabies. They knew the price would drop eventually why does it matter when?

I agree, I never buy the newest items when they frist come out... I always wait at least a yr, cause you will see a drop in prices by then.

Apologizing? Why? This is capitalism at its best. When the demand is high you are supposed to charge more and only when the demand tapers off do you drop the price. As an Apple shareholder this sort of ticks me off. Those people chose on their own free will to spend $600 for an iPhone...nobody forced them. They believed that the iPhone was worth $600 bucks to them. What about the owners of Apple?...where is our rebate Steve? How about a nice dividend in return for screwing us out of what would have been a better earnings report?

doesn't matter, the in-store credit will only increase apple's profit, not lower it. Think about it, most things that people buy from apple cost more then $100 anyway.

An apple $100 gift card could likely result in a person spend an extra $100 on top of it.

Some people are too used to ebay and getting a deal. That, and some people have a problem with impulsive buying.

If I *had* bought an iPhone or some other pricey gadget, I just would've shrugged at the price cut. The store credit would've just been a bonus, and not something to "correct" the early price tag.

Always remember, you pay the price in more ways than one for the bleeding edge of technology.

fyi last friday I did order a 4gb iphone after i saw the price drop. I remember when the iphone was first introduced I thought to myself that I really want a phone with those kind of features, but I'm probably not willing to pay more then $300 for one.

Now what do you know, it drops right into my price range. smart move apple.

That's 100% true, but the funny thing about capitalism is that most people don't like to see it work in that manner. People get offended when they see a company act in a purely profit-making mode, such as this.

As a stockholder, I wouldn't get too upset. That $100 is Apple Store credit, which means a lot of it is going to go unused. Even if it is used, it will be used on purchasing more Apple products and building the brand.
