Just ordered 768 meg of ram! w00t

My wife agreed to let me order more ram for my pc's, as my server runs slow when I do video editing (256 meg).
So I ordered a bunch!
It got here today, and she says, "you can't have that until Xmas".
boo-hoo, whaaaahhhhhh

My wife doesn't know what's in our systems to begin with, so when I sneak a change in, she doesn't notice

Thumbs down Okay guys, enough already

I like computers enough to build my own and try to find out all I can about them. But these "funny stories about wives and computers" are worrying me. Too many women are acting like they think they're second to CPUs.
Yeah, funny wife stories are classics, and so are funny husband stories, but they also point at problems. And if you're wife thinks it's a present and you think she's the joke, you may be storing trouble.

Cobra, that really sux!!! But look at the bright side, at least you know you have it!! My wife, however, is more like Hal's. She doesn't know what our machine consists of. As a matter-of-fact, I built this new machine while she was at a conference in New Orleans for 3 days, and when she got home she didn't even notice the new case or the speed increase. We went from a PII-333 to an AMD 1000!! When I brought it to her attention she remarked that the new machine did seem alittle bit slower, but the case was prettier Go figure!!

???
What?
I was just making a comment on how my wife let me buy some ram, but I can't use it yet.
Hard to sneak things by her, she does the monthly bills. But she's cool about letting me buy computer stuff. Usually let me get whatever I want. So I am not complaining.
Hurry up Xmas!!!!! HoHoHo I know what he's bringing me!

Hi Pam123!! Ironically enough I do understand what you are saying and to a point I will agree with you. However, gentle banter between husbands and wives has been going on for centuries, and that's all this really is. We're not putting our wives down because they know nothing about computers, it's just gentle teasing with no hidden meaning, as you women have done to us men for all these years If some women are acting like they are second to a cpu, well that's due to their own insecurities. So please Pam, don't sound like a whipped puppy, because you women are a hell of alot stronger then you give yourselves credit for

smokin

Wifey and I do not usually plan surprise presents as much as we used to. A few years ago, I gave my wife a scanner as a Christmas present. She still uses it frequently and likes having one very much. This year, it will likely be a ATI AIW Radeon 32mb video card [Hal's convinced me and I convinced her].
We plan to get it later because if it's here too soon, I'll want to set it up right away ... can barely wait.
woo-hoo, yhaaaahhhhhh

That's why I have my own "Law Office" credit card. An outside audit of my mothly statement would reveal more computer parts than law related materials. Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

No, I don't think you guys are the reason to deny marriage...

But there is a problem brewing, and you guys, no matter how well disposed you may be, are on the edge of it. Think, before you post these cute wife vs computer jokes!

**Me searches for "the cute wife vs computer jokes" and comes up blank ... scratches head and wonders: "what is the problem?"**
Pam123, you're making this out to be a 'he vs she struggle' and it need not be, that's not what this is.

Question

Huh??? Pam, I'm confused. I see no joke anywhere, nor do I see a husband putting his wife down.

Cobra, personally I would reason with your wife. I give my husband stuff way before Christmas if I buy it then---my thinking is "well, I have the money now, so I'll go ahead and get it. I know it;s something he will like and wants and will use, so what's the point in waiting? If I give it to him now, that's just that much longer he can get use out of it." Since you already know what it is there is even LESS of of point to waiting until Christmas anyway. Matter-of-fact, that's kinda a "cruel and unusual punishment" if you ask me.

Plus, you have to consider that it might be defective. If you wait until Christmas to put it in, you would have a hard time sending it back if it doesn't work.

Cobra's only complaint is that he has to wait. It is no different than his mother, father, brother, boss or whoever told him to buy it but not to use it until Xmas. Cobra has to salivate knowing his RAM is so close yet so far! It just happens to be in this case it was his wife.

My wife loves buying new computer stuff, and rarely begrudges me the option to get a new "toy" for our systems. See, the way it goes is...she gets all the great stuff that I have in my system as hand-me-downs whenever I get something new, and the kids systems get her hand-me-downs. That way, she gets the "tried and true" hardware, and I get the headaches.
Would you say no to a PIII 600, Asus P3B-F, 256PC133, Aureal Vortex, ....?

My wife takes a bit of a different attitude than yours does there 'boot. She complains that she has the "junk" machine that is slapped together with my leftover parts that I don't need anymore. Here is what she is running;

Celeron 850
256Mb PC133 RAM
QDI Brilliant 9 BX motherboard
ATI All-in-Wonder 8Mb
Dual 12Mb Voodoo 2's
SoundBlaster Live Value
Promise Ultra66
Startech 10/100 Ethernet
Panasonic 48x CD-Rom
13Gb Quantum 7200 RPM hard drive
$5 Dell keyboard
Logitech Optical mouse
17' .25 CyberVision (Viewsonic) monitor
Zoom 33.6 ISA modem.
Chenbro standard tower case
Panasonic floppy drive
Generic 2 piece speakers
Windows ME

Those 'crumbs' are nice computers. At our house, my lovely wife & daughter get the best computers and I get the hand me downs. Not that I mind in the least ... they actually need them for more demanding tasks and still allow me to use theirs once in a while ... expecially if something is not working right on them.
Mine is kept lean so it actually runs quite fast. The bootable drive, usually, is 0.6GB. The data , including ghost files for easy recovery, are on another drive. Sometimes, a dual boot Linux/Win98 1.7GB HDD is used. Here's the specs on that PC ...
Pentium 166
64MB SIMM
Gigabyte GA586VX mobo
2 mb ATI video card [soon to be to upgraded]
D-Link NIC [ISA]
2 HDD totalling just under 2 GB
17" Samsung 7E monitor @ 1724x768, 16 bit
SoundBlaster 16 [ct2960, ISA]
Creative 52x CD-ROM
Midiland MLI450 sub + 2 sat hooked up to a small amp
Logitech optical mouse
Mitsumi keyboard
MAGITRONIC AT case c/w easily removable panels
Win98SE

Hey Cobra, I hope these specs make you feel a wee bit better about the RAM.
