Titles
How are the titles under you nickname worked out?
At present I am Computing UnderGraduate (Freshman) - how would I get my own custom title? I have a feeling the Computing UnderGraduate is something to do with the number of posts and the Freshman, Second Year etc. is to do with the amount of time you have been a member. Correct? |

The "rank" is depending on your number of posts.

I think I've worked it out:
Computing Undergraduate (Freshman) < 100 Posts Computing Undergraduate (Sophomore) < 250 Posts Computing Undergraduate (Junior) < 500 Posts Computing Undergraduate (Senior) < 750 Posts Computing Graduate Student (First Year) < 1000 Posts Computing Graduate Student (Second Year) < 1250 Posts Custom Rank > 1250 Posts am I right? |

The rank boundries would follow the same as the rank.
Don't know for sure dj4uk but that seems right ... Dok or GLC should have all this info. Just for background, the titles used to be Junior Member, Member, Senior Member and sometimes later changed to the current University/Learning theme. In some cases, and I'm not sure exactly which, it is possible to change your own title. Check in PROFILE>Edit Profile and look for 'Custom User Text:' just under 'Birthdate:' and above 'Biography:' "Custom User Text: This is the title that appears beneath your name on your posts. You may enter up to 25 characters. Check the reset box if you wish to use the the default title for your usergroup and post count. HTML is not allowed."

dj: You have it right except 2nd year is < 2000, and over 2000 is Computing Doctoral Student - and anyone may make a custom title with 1000.

hehehe ... I hadn't played with these titles before ... and have come up with a new one [place title here] to replace 'Computing Professor' until I come up with a better idea. A lot of members are not aware of this feature. I wonder if Jenni will change hers to 'PC-Goddess' or something?

At an average of approx 3 posts per day, anyone could easily have the prestigious honour of changing their title within a year of joining PCMech's Forums. What is of importance is to make a contribution that is of worth to the person who started the thread and to the members who follow it. So it doesn't really matter if someone has a gazillion posts [they would probably be shunned long before that], it's the content and contribution that is significant ... and just off the top of my hat, I think of someone like Dave22, who, while he may not have high # of posts, is a person who shares information that is highly valued. There are sooooo many people like that here. In the end, it's not so much the quantity but the quality that counts.
Edit> added: 'within a year of joining PCMech's Forums.' after 'anyone could easily have the prestigious honour of changing their title ' so that it reads 'anyone could easily have the prestigious honour of changing their title within a year of joining PCMech's Forums.' Jenni, PC Goddess---naaahhh. ROFLOL! PC Tinkerer might be better. A lot of what I know I learned from you guys anyway!
I saw a while back that I could change my title, but I haven't been able to think up anything good. |

I quite agree Archie - I just wondered how the system worked.
PCMech is by far the best forum I have ever encountered. |
