Any thoughts on suitable songs for the wonderful world of puters?
My own first choice has to be the old Johnny Cash number, "I built it one piece at a time, and it didn't cost me a dime............." Also, "There's a guy works down the chip shop swears he's Elvis" must get a mention. Chris. |

Here's some thoughts for hardware songs ...
'DIY [Do It Yourself]' by Peter Gabriel when it has to be fixed. 'Dust' by Steve Winwood as I open the case and look inside. 'Careful with that Axe, Eugene' by Pink Floyd during momentary lapse of reason. 'Smooth Operator' by Sade when it gets fixed. 'I Have Been in You' by Frank Zappa as I'm wrapping up. 'Back in the Saddle' by Aerosmith when returning to my chair.

"A Hard Day's Night" by the Beatles. Installing Win98 using wrong RAM.
"All You Need Is Love" by the Beatles. When wifey's Netscape keeps crashing. "The Long and Winding Road" by the Beatles. Using Windows defrag utility. "I Will Celebrate" by Paul Baloche. After a successful pc build. "Shout To The Lord" by Darlene Zschech. When successful pc build runs stable for a month.

Aerosmith, I Don't Want to Miss a Thing, for those customers who just have to look over my shoulder.
Three Dog Night, Liar, for the majority of my customers. Red Rider, Lunatic Fringe, for those of us on the "Bleeding Edge", and beta testers. Aerosmith, Love in an Elevator "Livin' it up while I'm goin' down", for those who insist that Windows ME is the greatest! Bon Jovi, Blaze of Glory, "Shot down, in a blaze of glory...", for those users trying to install XP Pro on a 5 year old Compaq... Buffalo Springfield, For What It's Worth, "There's somethin' happenin' here, what it is, ain't exactly clear..." for anyone trying to install a winmodem in NT/2k/XP for the first time... MC Hammer, Can't Touch This, for Archie, Tiretool, Sarge, Toaster, Me, and a few others, with the absolute smoothest, most stable systems on PCMech. Guns 'n Roses, Patience, for those building their first computer. Loverboy, Turn Me Loose, for the guy/gal who got a $1000 gift cert to BestBuy for Christmas. Metallica, Turn the Page, for those who invariably forget to RTFM! Heh, I gotta stop now, I have over 500 MP3's, and I keep seeing more as I go through them... |

Can't remember who does it, but High Tech Redneck for the guy who has to have everything but doesn't have a clue how to use it.

"Verge of a Miracle" by Rich Mullins. Trying to use generic RAM on a Compaq.
"You Know Better" by Steven Chapman. Thinking about getting Windows XP. "He Has Made Me Glad" by The Maranatha Singers. When InoculateIt catches one. |

Bad to the Bone by George Thorogood. When the first PC you build rocks from the first push of the power button.

Some great choices, guys!
Actually one of my all-time favoutite records in an early release by The Who. They always used to open their concerts with it, and it used to almost make me cry. I never thought of it as a computer song before, but it's called "Can't Explain" Chris. |

Lol Sarge, me and you are probably the only two on this site that have ever heard those songs...
"What's Going On" Marvin Gaye---when Windows crashes for no apparent reason "Love The One Your With" Stephen Stills---when you're forced to use the crappy computer at someone elses house, or at school. "Ain't No Sunshine" Bill Withers---Jenni's attitude about living in the boonies with a 26.4 internet connection, or for when Office Depot has a 64 med Radeon for $50 and I'm broke, as usual... "After Midnight" Eric Clapton---when I'm usually online, lol. |

"California Dreamin'", Beach Boys- What Reboot does in the dead of winter.
"Tulsa Time", Don Williams--What Sarge has to set is pc's time too. "Little Deuce Coupe", Beach Boys--What HAL9000 REALLY wanted to buy to replace his beater. "Whats It Take", Aerosmith--What glc thinks when he tries to explain something about pcs to me. Carl Last edited by Kubie; 10-28-2001 at 05:29 PM. |

Carl, your last entry (What's it Take?) concerning glc is true
He has to deal with tech problems all day, then drop in here at night to "Hold your Hand" (by the Beatles). He bailed me out once when trying to use wrong RAM on new build, and has given alot of tips to others.

“Lookin’ for Love in all the Wrong Places” By Johnny Lee reminds me of trying to find those often-illusive drivers.

C.W. McCall's "Black Bear Road" contains a couple of lines that made me think...
"...looked like a whole bunch of Z's and W's all strung together." -my IDE/power cable mess in my first AT build "...doggone it, Roy Gene, how many times I have to 'splain it to ya?" - my learning 'speriences with PC's "...the dog made a yellow hole in the snow and Roy Gene got out his Instamatic and took a snapshot of it." - that's just funny phfat |

And when you've spent out that dough on the bleeding edge parts for which drivers arent yet written,
and you press the power button and you hear the sound of silence.. and you power up that old computer that you had shunned aside with the oh-so smug "I won't be needing you anymore!" .. barely managing to plug in the keyboard and mouse to run to http://forum.pcmech.com/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=2 Hello? Is there anybody in there? Just nod if you can hear me. Is there anyone home? Come on, now. I hear you're feeling down. Well I can ease your pain, Get you on your feet again. Relax. I need some information first. Just the basic facts, Can you show me where it hurts? There is no pain, you are receding. A distant ship's smoke on the horizon. You are only coming through in waves. Your lips move but I can't hear what you're sayin'. When I was a child I had a fever. My hands felt just like two balloons. Now I got that feeling once again. I can't explain, you would not understand. This is not how I am. I have become comfortably numb. Ok. Just a little pinprick. There'll be no more ...Aaaaaahhhhh! But you may feel a little sick. Can you stand up? I do believe it's working. Good. That'll keep you going for the show. Come on it's time to go. There is no pain, you are receding. A distant ship's smoke on the horizon. You are only coming through in waves. Your lips move but I can't hear what you're sayin'. When I was a child I caught a fleeting glimpse, Out of the corner of my eye. I turned to look but it was gone. I cannot put my finger on it now. The child is grown, the dream is gone. I have become comfortably numb. |
