Fire Ants in Bug
Bug been sitting up for 5 months in yard. I opened the door and saw ants crawling everywhere. Opened other door and the same thing. I opened the hood, took out all the tools, etc., raised the loose car rug and made me sick. Dirt, eggs and ants everywhere. I turned back the rear seat and there was another mound. Don't if any wiring damage has been done but can't figure out how to get rid of 2 big nests and all the ants. I can't douse the inside with stuff since it may be unhabitable to drive afterwards. Ideas???

Maybe a shop vac & barrel to dump it in.You can spray them in the barrel. Be careful, I understand their stings are very painful.

Check the store for some ant killer... don't remember the name of the stuff, but I had a nasty ant infestation in my basement last year.. bought this stuff that came in a small yellow bottle, laid some down on their tracks... next thing I knew there were literally thousands of the buggers around the small puddle, next day, they were gone and haven't seen them since. They take it back to the nests and it kills them.

Nope.. this bottle is yellow and looks like a bottle of white glue... you just place a few drops around one of their tracks and within 24 hours.. nothing.

Could you find a link for it Hal? I've used Terro with good results but the stuff you are talking about sounds like it works much quicker. Terro is safe as it is boric acid in sugar water if I read the data correctly, but takes a lil' while (several days) to kill the colony. I'd like to check out the stuff you use.

I'll find the bottle when I get home and post it.. the stuff is the best I have ever used... as soon as some come to it, the rest come like crazy... it was gross... there was literally a circle about 2 feet in diameter around this small puddle... and the next morning, not an ant to be found anywhere.

Thanks Hal, searching through the web it appears that both Antex and Terro are Very similar products. Both use borax as the main ingredient and according to Wilson web site http://wilson.nu-gro.chost.ca/produc....php?prodID=78
they both act the same way. So for those of us here in the US that can not find Antex, Terro may be a solution. If I do find Antex here in the States I plan to give it a try. Thanks for the info Hal. |

Boric acid products work very well against cockroaches too - same principle.
