What do you guys do?

Just wondering if everyone on here is IT professionals or if is just an interest. For me it is both as I am a Internet Developer by trade although I have a degree in Electronic Engineering which keeps me interested in the hardware side of things.

PC/LAN tech at one location doing a multitude of tasks ... 2 minutes away from home. I like my job. The work includes maintaining a Novell server and Win 9x clients, administration, creating images and re-imaging, troubleshooting mostly with software in a learning institution for young minds eager to seek knowledge.

I teach high school. Cisco Networking, MCSE Prep, and Basic PC Operator courses. Fun. I get to teach overclocking, web design, and manage to get some frags in on short days. The students have learned to respect the teacher's skills in RTCW

Telco tech (outside repair) with a 10-year old diesel bucket truck. Spend most of my time troubleshooting modem and DSL problems, as it's "never the ISP's fault". $15k of test equipment and it still comes down to a pair of needle nose and splice connectors

I'm a Structural Engineer. I specialize in highrise buildings.
I build and repair computers as a hobby. Sometimes I make a few bucks
while I'm at it. I got into computers because I wanted to know how they work.
I guess it was from always taking my toys apart when I was a kid.

Yeah Carl! I want to run a small PC shop when I am older! Is there any profit there or is it a hard small profit. Rather, if you were to run the shop on your own, what would be an average for an annual sallary.. 6 figures?

I do run the shop on my own and, because of falling prices, I haven't made 6 figures since 1995. I still sell as much product but the profit margin is just not there anymore.

Developer / consultant.

I work on a Datawarehouse used for Statutary, Head and middle office reporting in banks. Sounds awfully boring, but is actually very challenging. My work is a combination of Database development, programming and accounting.

Audio/Video Producer -- own my own small studio: 24 track digital audio and a full non-linear video suite. Primarliy do work for organizations who otherwise wouldn't be able to afford this type of work. Get's me ton's of referrals.

I'm also a grad student at MSU -- just been told by the powers that be that I better figure out what I want to do with my studies -- basically I've over stayed my welcome Maybe the Law School will let me in?.....

Don't do it Craig, noooooooooooooooo! Unless you love pain.

Sorry, I forgot this post involved a question;
I'm an Attorney specializing in estate planning (Wills, Trusts, Durable Powers of Attorney, little bit of probate, etc.) as well as copyright, trademark, and Licensing contracts.

I thought I would enjoy Landlord and Tenant Law when I got out of Law School but soon discovered it constists primarily of evictions. You really have to do a LOT of evictions to make any money. Firms that specialize in this area are set up as super efficeint "mills" that do 1500-3000 evictions per month.

I am a Power Plant Control Room Operator and former Chief Electrician in the U.S. Navy.
I first got into computers in the 386 days and since I do not do anything at work except get paid, I have a lot of time and money to build and upgrade computers for myself and others. In the past year I have now built 10 computers and may have a couple of more to build in a month. Now if I could just get them to work!

Awwwww....come on Ron, I've been in school now for something like 6 years (consecutive -- had two years out of high school back in late 80's). Law School would be one hellufa challenge. And I'm startting to really dig these Telecomm policy classes I have to take. And Detroit College of Law is right here on MSU's campus -- they even have a Telecommunication/Technology Law specialization. Took the LSAT last year for fun -- I think my 168 should get me it -- I think even U/M would take me. Although I wouldn't take them.

Hmmmmm.....LawyerCraig.....has a catchy ring to it.....Yeah, I like that.

Craig, I like the sound of it. You could run a TV ad, pound the desk, and say, "Call Lawyer Craig, the tough Michigan lawyer". Somehow, the same ad featuring a Lawyer Ron seems a bit mellow

Oh Yeah, I forgot to mention that I am also a part time product tester for Budwiser on my days-off from this job. I am also proud to say that although I do this part time, I manage to accomplish more than if I were fulltime.

your job description and beer testing hobby strongly reminds me of homer simpson, and I had a good laugh for awhile about it, no offense, just funny!
