Bug Coming Out

My old 1970 VW Bug has been neglected for almost a year, since I got my first new vehicle ever - an F-150. It's been under a tarp with some old gas and collecting ants but that's gonna change with gas pumping out of sight in price. Besides, it's nice fixing an old lawnmower engine I've had for 30 years. Love the truck and all it's done for me this year hauling stuff for gal bud's house, plus the stereo and a/c, but it's taking a backseat from here on out. The bank can come get it for all I care if payments get tough. 30 mpg versus 12 is a no-brainer at the cost of gas. It's tough driving in Texas with no a/c in the Bug, but I'll get over it. I figure some new points, oil change, carburetor kit and some 93 octane, I'll be rolling. My back already feels better

Sounds like a good plan. Did you ever get that fender pulled out from the wheel where that dork rear-ended you though?

I was an auto mechanic in one of my former lives. I would suggest siphoning out that old gas and refilling it with fresh gas. On a old VW, it's also important to keep the valves adjusted. Easy to do.

Yes, long ago. Got a replacement fender - used, but it works.

Made me remember. One of the back issues came about trying to separate the left side head from the jugs, when my '62 ate the #3 exhaust valve for the 3rd time. When I got better I put the engine on the back seat and called a VW shop to come get it. For $25 he wanted the radio and battery.

But I was running a '65 bus, and it was 6v too, and the battery was worth saving. The radio went on ebay about 2 years ago.

Checking valve clearances will be theraputic for the back.

Yeah, then a team of horses to get my arse back up off the ground. Done the clearances in the past - are ok, but someday will check again. Thanks for reminder.
