just keep a browser window running in the background that's turned to dictionary.com. That's what I do. You won't be able to find a better dictionary.

Thumbs up

http://www.dictionary.com/ will find many words that my dictionary proggie doesn't ... American Heritage Dictionary 3rd edition.
Rather than using the taskbar to launch a proggie dictionary, the hotkey feature could be used ... in Win 98, it's the 'shortcut key' box in the shortcut's properties just below 'start in' [press spacebar to bring it back to none]. For example, launch the dictionary proggie by pressing on Ctrl + Shift + D OR Ctrl + Alt + D.

I really find the Guttenberg style dictionary much more useful. You may have seen one, its made of this really thin wood-pulp like material and has this black lettering on each individual piece of wood-pulp. The best part about this style of dictionary, it doesn't use any RAM!!!!! All kidding aside, don't count a good old-fashioned bound paper dictionary. Every time I look up a word I seem to find two or three more that I feel better for now knowing.

On another note, does anyone else find it strange that we use dictionaries to figure out how to spell words but yet we need to know how to spell them to find them?????

That is the glory of lexicographic ordering. Use a dictionary to look that word up.

If you are looking for 'm' and you see 'q', then you simply look at the words before 'q'. So, you really only need to know, or even guess, at the first few letters before you are left with a handful of possibilities.

Respectfully,

Demosthenes

I just found a word in a dictionary that is not included in dictionary.com. First time ever! (the word is "tranche", which is a term used in the corporate finance industry to refer to one level of outstanding debt represented by a single issuance of debt securities. Found it in a legal dictionary, but it wasn't in any others I checked.)

You could make an html page and copy the code from m-w.com (webster's dictionary) to make a form. Not sure where it is because I've never tried it though. Remeber, just copy the form part. Next, set it as the desktop background.
