Yahoo increases yearly domain renewals to $34.99 - effective July 1, 2008

A heads up for anyone who keeps their domains with yahoo...it looks like it may be time to jump ship and look elsewhere.

Effective July 1, 2008, domain renewals after that date now cost $34.99.

That's about triple the original purchase/renewal price

Here's yahoo's instructions on how to transfer to another registrar: http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/sma...thcode-04.html

Personally, the one domain I have hosted with them is now going into my godaddy account, as the renewal date of that domain is 8/1/08

Apparently, yahoo domain holders are only notified of the price increase in an email when their domain is renewed.

[edit]: correction: a small portion of users were notified 30 days before the renewal date. Most users were not notified at all. Would this be considered a bait and switch?

If anyone is using Yahoo as their registar let me offer my apologies. Now is the chance to transfer from Yahoo which is pretty difficult over to GoDaddy or one of the better cheaper registars.

Reminds me of Home Simpsons jacking up his rates for seeing his elephant and riding on it .. Still .. I think Yahoo has a more chance of survival if Jerry Yang started panhandling.

The instructions look as straight forward as any other registrar that I've transferred domains from. I don't see how it could be much of a problem...
