Exclamation iPhones here and gone ...

It's looks like Steve Jobs will make his numbers.

I took a break earlier today to check out the scene at the Apple store, the one at 59th across from Central Park.
That was at around 3:00 PM.

The rumor was that they were sold out but the ever hopeful were all still in line.
When I got home I checked on line, it looks like Apple's first day may have been a worldwide sell out. I doubt we'll get all the numbers till sometime next week though.

One thing is sure, they sold enough 3g phones to crash iTunes servers worldwide.

Looks like that's exactly what happened.

I don't think they had much stock to begin with.

I went to my local AT&T store when I got off work at 3pm today and the manager told me that when the store opened in the morning they only had 15 iphones in stock and there were already 50 people in line.

He said not only was every AT&T store in town out of stock, but their online backorder system was also out of stock.

You meant all that hoopla for an Apple product. Apple's marketing and advertising is incredible.

Yah - maybe I guess. I've heard a bit about Apples' partnership with Rogers here in Canada for the newest iphone, but other than that I really don't know much.

I'm definately not a cell phone fan. I simply don't get why everyone and their dog needs one. I have a pay-as-you-go phone from Virgin for emergency use. In the two+ years I've had it, I've spent about $200.00 on airtime. All it does is send/recieve calls. Works for me!

Looks like Apple got it right this time with a 3G iPhone. Looks like all the naysayers have to complain about now is the price. Well, you don't get a first rate phone for a second rate phones price.

I don't know why Apple does not release a few hundred units to people who agree to keep it a secret to see if everything works well before they release all the units. I can understand the servers becoming overloaded when they release all the units on the same day. Perhaps they need to release the units by region on different days so this does not happen or simply buy more servers? This wont be the last time they release something that requires a bunch of servers to keep up with the sudden demand.

Thanks for the report Pam about the lines. Looks like it may be time to go back into AAPL.

I'm going to buy one. I have the first iphone and it really is an incredible device. I've got access to the full internet in my pocket (as opposed to a crippled verison like most cell phones).

My only real reason for buying this new one is for more storage space. I was only able to afford the 4 GB version when they came out, now I'm going to upgrade to 16GB so I can fit ALL my music on it

Not that I would ever buy one, but the only company that offers it here has a horrible deal. The phone is $199, but you get locked into a 2 year contract that is $3000/year. Yeah right...

!@#*!!??

I hate cell phones (smart or otherwise) but I'm really thinking about breaking the bank for an iPod Touch, maybe.

$3000 per year? ....thats $250 per month! Thats more than I pay for my two XM radios, my home phone, my Netflix subscription and my DirecTV combined! Good gawd, thats about what I pay for gasoline!

LOL.. ya.. that's funny because I put about $60 per week into my car... making my car cheaper to run than that contract.

Heck I pay under $150 for 4 phones with all kinds of goodies, yes it is Sprint, but the service has been pretty good over the last 4 months or so..

It is $NZ but still its ridiculous. The company is Vodafone and they've been on TV about it, it was quite funny really because the presenter kept saying that its a lot more than every other country and Vodafone kept saying that its worth it because of its multitude of features and couldn't give a reason why the plan was so much more expensive than other countries. They also denied it being because of them being the only supplier of the phone and taking advantage of that. There was also footage of lots of people that were sleeping for days at the launch location only to leave because of the cost. Six grand for 2 years of service, thats enough for a 3 week holiday to France (which I'm doing in September ).
