Newegg - anyone else notice?

Looks like they removed all the shipping prices from all the items - only the items that have free shipping are indicated as such. Very disappointing - I use shipping cost as a very important tool when I'm comparing items. Now I have to hassle with throwing stuff into a cart to find out how much it is.

What a pain. I too often find that the shipping price to be the determining factor in whether to buy from a site and hate to jump though a bunch of hoops just to see the shipping fee.

No, haven't noticed... Yes, it's a pain to have to add the item(s) to the shopping cart to view shipping (but at least it's not too painful).

What I have noticed, however, is that either their prices have gone up slightly... or other places, like Best Buy are having better prices. For example, a friend was over yesterday and showed me his new monitor online:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16824176091

He picked it up at Best Buy -- and not on "sale" -- for the same price Newegg is selling it for on "sale" with $20 off. I've noticed that with hard drives and other items, too...

it's the gas prices that are killing us, you should see the increases on medium to heavy machinery.

i just bought a mortiser that was 899 dollars a year ago, and now costs 1150. sure the seller still advertises flat rate shipping, but the extra 200 bucks is what it's costing us round trip, after they import metal and ship the finished product from canada to the US.

The shops I've used over here have *never* shown shipping charges for individual items - I always thought it was novel that Newegg did. Ebuyer charge a flat rate for shipping depending on how quickly you want the item, adding a surcharge therein based on weight. As a result, shipping is only calculated at the checkout. I guess it wouldn't hurt for them to advertise individual shipping prices based on the most popular delivery choice, but as a tight Yorkshireman, I'd always want to see the cheapest so would have to add it to the cart anyway.

Interestingly enough, Overclockers.co.uk have recently started offering next-day shipping free to members of their discussion forums, which is a nice saving over the frankly ridiculous £8 flat rate.

Pricegrabber.com shows all the tax and shipping costs by entering in your zip code once...which includes items sold by Newegg. Looks like Newegg does not care if they pick up some competition from other vendors also listed by Pricegrabber. (Hint hint Newegg...put your shipping cost back how they were, unless you dont mind your customers searching Pricegrabber and possibly finding lower prices than yours.)

Has anyone contacted newegg support about this yet?

Yeah, I noticed that. Thought I was going crazy for a minute until I realized what was going on. I can say I'm not a fan of that change. :/

I agree. That's going to make estimating a customer quote a major pain when you have to add everything to the cart and then empty it when you're done.

I would imagine that Newegg thinks they are going to sell more merchandise by doing this. I bet it backfires because its annoying to not know the entire price upfront.

I'd like to see the shipping rates back as well, especially when pricing larger items like Supermicro server chasis....

Also, I added a $3.50 usb cable and then had to check the cart again to figure out that you just added $8.25 of shipping for this one cable.... The shipping on small items like cables has been high, and now it is a pain to keep an eye on. I'll just place an order somewhere else for the extras...

Yeah, no kidding. Kinda like if you order a microSD card for $3.49.... and even the "Egg Saver" shipping is $3.99, more than the price of the card itself.

Amazon has free shipping over a certain price. No need to worry about what Newegg is going to charge you.

Yeah, if it's an eligible item, which not every thing is... and they don't have everything. What if I want an SD card? I don't want to spend $25 just to get free shipping when I only want one thing.

If you look at the price for the item, and caculate shipping, you will be better off getting from one of theo big electronic stores instead..

Hope Newegg doesn't go on a reinventing itself binge. You see it happen all the time and the companies loose the comfort zone that has been established with their customers. Bean counters sometimes can't see across the pile of beans they've been moving around.

I'm a bit disappointed in the canned scripted response we got. It doesn't even come close to addressing the issue. I wonder if Newegg Support moved to India?

I agree....

I used to get 3 day service with FedEX when they used them by default...now that they use UPS it's more like 7 days...some smaller stuff comes USPS and actually I prefer that as of late UPS has had terrible service...over have of the stuff I have sent or received comes damaged...

Didn't they use to ship by UPS as the default shipper? ...

I hear at the DFW terminal of UPS they just busted a huge stealing ring. Maybe that is why everything is always late from UPS the theifs get the pick of the goods first..

newegg shipping has been a huge disappointment for me. I've been buying a bunch of stuff on newegg lately for myself - 8gb flash drive, arctic cooling freezer 64, and today a 1tb seagate drive - luckily all three had free shipping. it surpised me that they give free shipping on something like the arctic cooling - they shipped a $25 heatsink in a huge box, 3 day shipping....whereas with something like a small cable that they could throw in an envelope and ship for nothing, they charge obscene amounts for shipping (and for the product itself). I never use newegg for purchasing cables and the like - I needed a short (6ft) cat 5e cable, newegg charges like $3 + 4 ship, so instead of paying $7 for one cable on newegg I was able to get 3 cat 6 cables on ebay for $5 shipped.

It's amazing how the thieves thought they could get away with something like that for very long....given the way every package is tracked. It was obviously only a matter of time before they narrowed it down to who and where.
