This will be a very tight one where *every* vote will count, as most of the contested states going nearly 50-50 for each presidential candidate.

Don't let anyone tell you that your vote won't matter in this election. If anything else, it matters *more*.

If your schedule doesn't allow, go early in the morning, or perhaps take lunch earlier or later than usual to avoid lines. Or, go after work, but expect lines.

Many county and state websites have sample ballots up for you to take a look at, should you want to give them the once-over before actually going to the polling station.


Lastly, be kind, courteous, and even though opinions are running high right now, keep it civil. We all have to live with each other come the day after the election. Good luck to everyone and each of the candidates!

I don't have to worry about long voting lines anymore. We used to have to vote in Enid, population 47,000.....but several years ago they changed the district lines and we got put in a different voting area. Now we vote in a little podunk town that has less than 500 people in it. Longest "line" we've ever had was one soccer mom and a couple farmers standing there in their overalls talking about planting wheat.

you'' find in alot of places people dont vote because then it seams you are a very good candidate for Jury Duty....lol

no doubt this election is one for the history books. We will either have the first black pres or we will have the oldest elected and the first woman VP.

I live in Chicago. I did not vote early due to the move. I did however go this morning around 7ish on my way to work and was in and out in under 30 minutes. I imagine there is a definite eb and flow to election lines.

I just got back from voting. Took about 15 minutes. I'm glad I didn't have to go during a "rush hour".

I early voted 1.5 weeks ago, had about 5 people in front of me! Moved to a different county about 1.5 years ago, so I hadn't ever voted there before. Shortest line to vote I've ever been in!

Went over to the justice center (police station/courthouse) at noon, no line, got right in and out. However, I was told that the line was 2 hours long at 7am.

Fortunately I had a dr's appointment today and was able to go afterwards, rather than wait until after work. My precinct is usually really busy in the evening, with long lines the norm. Just one or 2 people ahead of me this afternoon, though the volunteers said it had been a really busy day.

My dad is american but lives in NZ with ma family, he says he will have to do it online but he can still vote as he is a citizen of the united states of america.
Maybe if some of you cant find time to go and vote then you could do it online.

Ballot arrived in the mail a few weeks ago. We sat down and completed them in the comfort of our home on the couch and then sent them off.

When I see the TV coverage of people waiting in huge lines I just have to shake my head and ask why don't all states adopt mail in voting? It's easier and promotes greater voter "turn-out".

I voted yesterday at about 1 and had a heck of a time. The registration card they sent me was screwed up, they had my street name listed as my last name. I called the number on the card and had it corrected, the lady I talked to was the most unfriendly person ever, she must just hate life to be so rude to an innocent stranger. And then when I went to vote they still had my last name incorrect. So I had to fill out a provisional ballet which took forever as they looked up the rules for a person voting registered with an incorrect name. Then when I was done voting they sealed my ballet in an envelope and dropped it in a suitcase. I am sure that suitcase is now at the bottom of Lake Erie. So who knows if my vote even counted and it wasn't even my fault! I hate politics!

Seen the TV coverage of your countries election - and seen the queues to vote.

My country has larger election turnouts but I've never seen queues like that here.

Can't you guys not just open more places to vote?

More places take more people and equiptment to run the places....

More states should start doing early voiting...And we should have voiting places inside Malls and whatnot to make em weather proof and have ample parking etc.

What I don't get is how we've elected the next president, but yet, off the same ballots, it'll be weeks before we know about local politics (in some cases...)...
