Scraping coin/spoon on skin when sick?

Hey,

I tried googling this but I don't even know what it's called. Maybe someone could help me out.

When I was a child and got sick, my mother would always scrap a coin on my back and chest with vapor rub until it turned dark red. This traditional method has been around for a long time and many families still use this method to get well fast. Even up till now, I don't know if there is an actual term for this? Some people use a spoon for this method as well.

Any one have a clue what I'm talking about or tried this?

Many people of ethnic background know this method and no one I talked to knows what it iscalls. Apparently the scraping relieves the poison inside the body into the air. The redder your scraps are on the skin, the more sick you are. I think this is interesting and hopefully there is a term for it so I can research it some more.

Now that's different. I can honestly say I've never even heard of anyone doing that for sickness of any kind. I guess whatever works though. Most of the time when I'd get a cold, I'd either get Vicks or sometimes a hot tottie.

I'm sure adding open wounds to an already sick person has to have some merit...Maybe it takes your mind off the original illness.

my parents used to give me a shot of wiskey, a slap on the head, and told me to go play outside.

Garlic and onions can be used to combat viruses in your body.
Many people falsely believe that antibiotics fight viruses but
antibiotics only fight bacterial infections.

Read more about garlic and onions at the links below.

Excerpt from link above:

Health Benefits of Onions and Garlic
Onions -- whether they are red, yellow or white -- have antioxidants and are anti-inflammatory, antibiotic, anti-allergic and antiviral. They contain high levels of quercetin, a potent flavonoid that may help fight or prevent cancer.
