X-Box

Well, I did the sitting at the door thingy at Best Buy tonight. About 50 of us -- probrably didn't need to - they had over 100. But let me tell you something -- This thing ROCKS! Been playing football for the last 30 minutes and I can't tell you how good and smooth these graphics are. The snow is down right real, as is the fog. Player movements are natural and smooth -- M$ has a hit on their hands.

Congrats on the new purchase. I'm still torn between X-Box and GameCube. X-Box has promising titles and can play DVDs, but GameCube is, well, much cheaper.

What games did you buy with the console?

Have you tried the PS2 and if so, would you say the X-Box is better?

This is what I heard . . .

For DrZaius, I heard today that the X-Box is marketing the 18-34 year olds. The Game cube is targeting the under 20-year olds (more kid friendly titles to be released). Maybe that will help. Personally, I think the X just looks cooler!

Mel: Yeah, Nintendo has always targeted is consoles for younger audiences in general with their design and games. Pokemon anyone?

Even so, it will still have some good titles. I'm waiting to see either way, a friend just bought an X-Box so I'd like to play with it to see what the hype is about.

IMHO the N64 was worth having for the 007 games and the Star Wars: Rogue Squadron title. Perfect Dark (is that the correct title?) is excellent. Then you can turn the kids loose with Mario Tennis.

I've had a PS2 since day 1 -- X-Box is much better. Smoother graphics, better shading, much more realistic in every respect. In Madden NFL, when a player makes a great play, you'll see that player do a dance or some close up of their celebration and the background will be out of focus. Then the 'camera' will start to zoom in past the player to the stands which start to focus in. Very realistic.

I picked up Madden NFL 2002, Halo, StarWars Starfighter, F1 2001, and NASCAR Heat 2002. I also purchased 2 Mad Catz controllers -- I found the M$ controller to big and bulky. And two memory units brought my total to over $600.00

I'll agree that the gamecube looks like it's marketed to the younger folks -- they did have a demo of it up and running in the store and quite honestly, I think X-Box has better graphics. And most of the titles for the gamezube are for the youngins -- at least the initial titles. That may change, but for my money, X-Box is where it's at for now.

BTW guys, went into Best Buy today to talk my wife into a widescreen HD monitor (no such luck ), -- but I saw the gamecube in action and had a chance to play it. X-Box is WAY better. I was not impressed at all with the game cube regardless of how they are marketing the thing.

Theory: Every game on X-Box will come out on the computer.

Reasons: Some may say not, but think about it, why wouldn't developers put it on any system that can handle it, and with a 733mhz processor in the XBox, they're just at the tip of the iceberg. I believe that P4 or athlonXP with a 32-64 mb vid card and a DVD drive could easily handle any XBox game and likely play it even better! So i'm gonna at least wait to see if my theory is true before shellin out the 299, i'm sure it would be cheaper to buy a USB controller and play the games on computer.

One question, is there a Bleem 2 (Bleem allows you to play Playstation one games on the computer) that allows you to play PS2 games on computer?

Hi Craig,

How long are the loading times on the X-Box compared to the PS2? Do games load quicker or slower on the X-Box? About how long does it take to load a game on average on the X-Box? TIA.

In all honesty, times are about the same.

Not a one. Bleem met it's match in the courts. There was a PS2 emlulator planned by a French company but the same happened to them without even a software release -- French courts don't take kindly to unauthorized reverse-assembly of code.
