Any good places to buy Car audio gear online?

Hello everyone,

I think the subject lines says just about everything.
I'm in the market for a new CD receiver head unit. My price range is around $250. Thinking of getting Alpine model 7871. Might add subs in the trunk later.
Any recommendations in head units or places to get them at?

Thanks in advance.

www.crutchfield.com

check yahoo! shopping too. they have a ton of small resellers who often sell at cheaper prices. just be sure to call them up and to ensure that it isn't a refurbished unit.

any recommended head units around $250? Trying to find the Pioneer Premier 630. But I can't find that unit at any local car audio place (to listen to it before buying it). And Crutchfield doesn't have it either. DOH!

JCH...WHOA...that website is awesome...The Pioneer Premier 630 is only $250! Most places its over $300.

Hm...but I feel I should buy from Crutchfield since they include instuctions and installation kits free with the purchase. I never did any car stereo installation before so I think it would be a safer investment if I bought it from Crutchfield.com
But they don't have that receiver.

Hm...how difficult is it to put a new head unit into a car?

Send a message via ICQ to cobra Send a message via AIM to cobra
most of the time VERY simple, just buy an installation kit from radio shack/circuit city, and read the manual, not hard at all.

or go to here

I still like Crutchfield, and wouldn't buy from anyone else. Their installation kits are based on the vehicle you are putting it in and the tech support/customer service is outstanding. The Kenwood MP3 Player I have in my truck took 30 minutes to install following their instruction sheets.

Cobra, Morris,
Thank you for your responses, it's greatly appreciated.
And speaking of MP3s....would I be better off getting a MP3 player for my car?
Can Mp3 players play regular and CD-R audio CD's?

And what head unit would you recommend from Crutchfield.com thats around $250?
(standard)

Not only will they play regular CDs, they will also play CD-R and CD-RW disks.
However for CD-R disks I recommend that you burn them using the Diamond (True Silver/Silver) blank CD-R disks.

Because of the absence of any dye on the recording surface of the disk, you get better laser reflection which seems to be important for auto stereos that get vibration.
