System I built this morning

for a customer. Took about 45 minutes. The Corsair X128SSD was awesome, took no time at all to install Vista 64

GTX295 on PhotoPeach

Someone tied up a wad of money for that rig I'll bet. Could you share the specs?

I'm surprized that it only scored 5.9 on the windows performance scale (not that I take too much out of that number)... I'm running an Intel quad core 2.83 Ghz, 4 GB RAM, 4x 500GB hard drives in RAID 5 and an ATI All in Wonder HD card on Vista 64 bit as well..... I scored 5.9 across the board with the exception of the ATI card at 5.3....

What only scored 5.9 in that rig? Everything there should be at least 7.0. Everything but the SSD would probably be 7.7+.

It goes to show that the Windows Performance Scale is not very useful. I would imagine it only measures how well Windows runs and not any of your applications.

It's definitely not a very useful tool, but it does usually give a moderately good picture of the system. My guess is that it was actually testing the WD Black for some reason, since all the 7200RPM drives seem to score 5.9.

I thought the score was only out of 5.9, and MS seems to confirm this:

d'oh. I forgot that Windows 7 is what raised it to 7.9 max, although I thought Vista was at least 6.9 for some reason.

I built the same exact machine for the guy's brother but he wanted 7. Sorry I did not take a capture of the windows 7 score. It was all 7.5 or higher, the i7 950 scored 7.9 so did the video card. The memory and hard drive are what caused the score to drop.

My rig in my signature scores a 5.9 - the Windows thing says the HD is only a 5.7...go figure. Everything flies though.
