I always heard it doesn't matter, runniing or not, as long as the distrbutor does not get wet. Even if it does get wet, You just have to dry it out or wait for it to do so on it's own. I always hit the entire engine compartment with a good degreaser before I would take the car to the carwash. Then spray I'd spray the motor down, while running. You can hear the motor start to struggle if it starts to get too wet. When that happens, I'd back of until she catches up, and do it again.

The only good thing about washing with the engine running is you know exactly when you've washed too much or the wrong area

I use a 3000 PSI pressure washer under the hood...no problems. Sure comes out nice and clean.

Folks, engine washing these days is a whole different ballgame from what it used to be. There is so much electronics under the hood you have to be very careful. The LAST thing I'd use is a pressure washer. All it takes is for water to get into one electrical connection or component that's not completely environmentally sealed to drive the electronics nuts.

The Festiva always required WD-40 in the distributor afterwards...The Rustang before that always ran fine... the Buick before that was even more old school than the wagon and a non issue... the Chrysler Daytona before that was a non issue... everything before that was old school and no issues.

Hal - are you putting the battery on a painted or unpainted conrete floor? - would the paint act as a insulator? - would be good to note these down.

Well it's been almost a week... the thing is pretty trashed... it's reading 4.38 volts.... a far cry from my original readings after being on the bench for a year.
Temps were ranging around 13 - 17'C last week when I went to bed around midnight - 1AM. I guess the next step here will be to see if it will take a charge again.... with it being that low... I'm somehow doubting it. |

I had my father inlaws truck here Sunday afternoon because the check engine light had come on, I put the code reader on it and sorted it out and decided to have a check around under the bonnet, out of curiosity and due to the fact it was dirty and damp, I did a voltage test on the battery case. It was reading 5.8volts.
I have told him I will clean it for him next week and change the spark plugs as it is running a tad lumpy.

I hope you both enjoy your visit together. Father son visits at this time in your lives are to be cherished. Hope you guys can get the race in Valencia this weekend. "Go Alonso" or Button, I hope Brawn wins the championship this year.
