Unhappy Bitten at Ebay

Well after two years of buying and selling on Ebay it has finally happened.
I thought I would have a little fun and build a micro atx since I've never built one. So I get all my supplies together most of which i had lying around but I had to get a motherboard so i figured since this is for fun I would just order a cheap one from Ebay. Well I recieved the board, built it out of the case like a good little boy but when I juiced her up--nothing. Well I fiddle a little with this then that, then it hit me hey this is not the board I ordered.
So I contacted the seller. I got the address and sent it back Priority Mail with tracking. So now a month goes by and still no board so I email the seller
and a few days goes by and no responce so I access the original Ebay ad and it says this member is no longer registered. I'm thinking what? he has a feedback of 1,567 So I click on his feedbacks and low and behold there were a tremendous amount of members that were sent either the wrong or defective board. the add did have a 30 day warranty, so much for my warranty. So now I filed a Fraud report and I got this clowns phone number which I'm going to try in the morning but I have the feeling that it is going to be disconnected. I have news for this guy though I have the tracking proof and my next move is to report it to the Postmaster General so now instead of this guy having Ebay on him, I hope he likes the Federal Government on him for mail fraud. As for me I should take my own advice and read the sellers feedback no matter how large the number of feedbacks they have.

My father went through the same problem when buying a set of Cobra walkie talkies a couple years ago for their vacation. Fortunately, he is not one to back down from a challenge. I think he got the phone number of everyone the guy screwed and their cousins. Then he threatened the guy with not one, but dozens of fraud cases. After finally getting the guy's home phone (I still do not know how my father got that number), the seller threatened to sue for defamation of character. But, when faced with the numerous cases, I think he decided to cave in, which is a smart idea. Eventually, we got our money back. Happy story.

But, that is the problem with eBay. Of course they could have stricter registration rules and regulations, but that would defeat the purpose of eBay. So, as long as there are people looking for a deal, there will be swindlers out to exploit them.

Hope you have the same luck as he.

Respectfully,

Demosthenes

In my opinion, buying computer parts on EBAY is asking for trouble. I do not believe the prices are that good to begin with and you do not know the quality of the merchandise. It's better to deal with companies like www.justdeals.com who at least have a reputation. They sell overstocks, closeouts, and refurbs at excellant prices.

I'd suggest you or you get a friend of yours to call as your lawyer, and speak calmly and see if he folds.

Yep, you really have to be careful about what you buy. I do buy all my Jaz cartridges there tho, because they have a lifetime warranty from Iomega. If you get a bad one you just do a warranty exchange. I have been sucessful in buying mobos and processors there too. Reading feedback is critical too, although some should be taken with a grain of salt.

I'd have charged him for gas too, hourly rate for friends spending their time also

Well I tried calling today but all I get is an answering machine. I can't kkep calling because of the long distance charges. If his location was within driving distance rest assured I would be sitting on his front door step.
But I am in Pennsylvania and this seller is in Florida. I'll just have to hope that Ebay will cover the loss but I'm not sure. I have to wait till they reply to the fraud report that I filed. It's not the money that bothers me though, it is definitly to point of the matter that there are still those out there that would perpetrate crimes on unwitting others.

I've fallen into the same bad habit. I haven't been bitten yet though.

lol Yeah getting him with mail fraud is great and all, but nothing beats a good punch to the face. Much more satisfying.

When I had something like this happen, I sent an e-mail stating that not only was I going to send a bill for my time and trouble and sue if the billing was not paid, but also was going to contact the U.S. Postal service Inspector General as this is a case of Postal Fraud, the Comsumer Protection agency in my and their State, and finally I was going to post their name on as many internet computer forums I could find with the story of what happened to me. I got my refund faster than you can say it.

This guy is not even reading my email, not one letter has been read.
I can check because his email address is an AOL and I am on AOL as well
and since we are both on AOL you can check the status of a sent letter. It keeps coming back not yet read. My only hope now is from Ebay fraud protection.
I am going to talk to the post office when I go there Saturday morning.

I don't think it would be a good idea for me to release the users name because of pending litigation by myself and other members of Ebay. I will keep you updated on the outcome. Suffice to say Ebay has pulled his membership so you will not be able to purchase anything from this member, at least not on the member name that I bought from. but if he is a real idiot he probably has been selling under another registry. All I can tell you at this point is carfully check any sellers feedback.

update:

I finally recived the proper board from this seller yesterday.
I played with it a litte last night managed to get a post, but keep getting a checksum error, I'll have to try another battery and see what it does also it recognizes my cpu as a Pentium III but all that is in it is a Celleron 633. I don't know what it up with that. In another twist last week I bought a 15 gig hardrive from ebay but it looks like this has to be returned since I can't get it to do anything it is making noises I know it is messed up. I gotta be honest if this keeps up I'm not going to be buying much there anymore. On a lighter note I did recieve a different board that I bought from a different seller this board came right to life.
