Refurbished Cell Phones
Have anyone here had one? What has your experience been?
1)Possitive 2)Horrible I'm currently on my fourth refurbished Samsung M900 Moment. It all started when my oldest upgraded hers from the moment to Evo 4G. She game me hers and at first it seemed like a good phone. But then I started to have lots of issues with dropped calls. Called Sprint, they said it was a faulty antenna (known issue with this model phone) and sent me a new one. Next after 3 weeks I dropped the phone a broke the screen. Paid my $100 deductible and got a replacement from the insurance company.. Next my phones GPS, and WiFi stopped working. So on Monday Sprint sent me another phone. Right from the start the phone had issues, the home and back keys would not respond, without pressing real hard. Called them back, and they said go to a repair center. So today I went, and I was surprised what the tec told me when he was done.. The LCD touch screen was not working properly, and the home, back button attached to it, by a ribbon cable (I assume) was broken from the screen itself.. He had to put on a new outer screen, and the LCD touch screen. I said to him Sprint just sent me the phone on Monday, and what a surprise they sent me a broken one as well. I not able to upgrade my current phone until Feb 2012. But if I had the $$$ I would just go out and get me a new phone early. Personally I hate refurbished phones..

Can't you switch to a different model under the same plan?

I've only had limited experience with refurbished phones, used to have a candy bar nokia phone in 2006, got it as a refurbished for $35 (from virgin mobile, back before it was bought by Bell). Was clean, functional and nicely packaged as well as containing a $10 card with it. Lasted for about 3 years before the keys stopped working.
Since then I've only bought new, switched to a new carrier recently (mobilicity) and am not on contract, but have to pay for full price of phone when I get it. Grabbed a Samsung Galaxy Mini a few weeks ago for $170, probably the best phone I've owned so far, liking Android 2.2 a lot.

My brother had problems with a series of refurb Palm Pres... he argued enough with Sprint and they offered him the choice of three other refurb phones (I believe the Hero, a Blackberry, and the Pixi). All of those were inferior to the Pre, so he argued with them some more and they bumped him up to the next level of support beyond Retentions. After a number of calls with a guy on that level and lots more arguing, he got an Evo Shift 4G (probably just so he would go away and stop bothering them...
).

Well that same phone in the original Op was replace the next day.. Right after I got it back, I could either not get service, or it would keep on roaming.. I but a call in to the corporate office, and got a brand new intercept. The phone is not the greatest, but will do until I can get my upgrade in Feb.. The model itself was discontinued, but they had a new one so I got it, and it does what I want it to do for the time being..
