PCMech Longevity

I can't believe it's been so long around here, and a tribute to Risley for keeping this joint open so long. Each of us owe that man a salute many times over. Alot of us old coots were at 56k.com and word got out about here. I think it was Hal or glc that mentioned it. We all seemed to join around the same time - Glc, Doc, Floppyman, Kubie, Hal 9000, bob, Lawyer Ron, Reboot, bossman, and myself. 12 years, lots of water under the bridge. Gone from 28.8 and 56k modems to dsl and beyond. Shoot, in that time I've gotten 4 kids to graduate, got divorced, retired, remarried and built too many PCs I didn't need. Along the way, some of the fellers here helped me more than they will ever know, but they do know who they are.

Little did I know 12 years ago when I joined that so much of life could be lived, along with dealing with a PC. PCM the best.

Thumbs up

I had to check when I joined. 2006, jeez time flies. I do remember when I joined though. In one of my earliest posts I had cursed a bit and GLC came on right away with a 'language warning rwest' Polite and to the point. That and the 'want to learn' and help has kept me here. The atmoshpere on this site is of the highest caliber found anywhere on the net and I'm happy to be a part of it.

Way to go PC Mech!

I came in here knocking Asus and swore by Foxconn motherboards Then all of a sudden, I started having issues with them. I seen the light and have never looked back.

I've been a member here for about 5 years. Over the years, I had joined about 5 other "PC tech" type forums, but pcmech.com has been the best one overall. Number one reason is how well it's managed. Number 2 reason is strict but reasonable rules without being overbearing and moderators that are fair and considerate. Number 3 reason is the membership, friendly user to user support.

Thank you all for making a great forum!

Nuclear Krusader moved from Mexico to my home town some years ago, so yes, I know him personally... I've met a couple of others that no longer come here as well.

Great sense of community. Great place to get help of all kinds, not just computers. Great place to learn about computers. Great place to kill some time when I don't feel like doing anything else.

I've met no one, everybody is afraid to come to the hood in Detroit I don't live there anymore but I still have a home where a multitude of blood occupies it from squatters.

I met up with Jon (Panama Red) for the first time in San Juan Puerto Rico, after which my wife and I shared a holiday in the Dominican Republic followed by a holiday in Panama with Jon and his wife and we have visited one another at home a few times. I met up with George (glc) in O'Hare airport Chicago and we shared a beer or two before my flight back to Puerto Rico and last but not least I met up with Will (shadowpr) in Dallas airport whilst intransit to Michigan to spend some time with Jon (Panama Red) again.

I met Statica at a MS conference a few years ago... Just now dawned on me he hasn't posted in a long time...

I've also met a few other guys from different site.

I'm heading to Baton Rouge,LA in April for second annual get together of guys from an on-line prostate cancer support group. Looks to be 20 guys and many wives will be there for the weekend.... Big crawfish boil on Saturday...

Our conversations are a whole lot different then what ya get when tech guys get together

I was just over there Tuesday (Mt. Clemens). I had to fix a controller problem at a customers plant. I am sure I will be there again, I will drop you a PM when I do.

I live in the Jackson area now but I drive all over the place as of late. The company I was under contract with hired me permanently and they have me doing everything. I don't mind though, gets me out of the office and besides, all their hardware is working perfectly now.

Good grief, almost 10 years here for me. I need to get out more

I've met kstatefan40 in person, and have spoken with a few others on the phone or on skype at one time or another over the years.

As far as I'm aware, I'm not within a stone's throw of any PCMechers up here in the northeast.

Well, I told a few people about here and a former boss told me about here, so we've all met. I guess this year will mark 10 years for me. I had been told of it a year or two before I signed up.

13 year anniversary coming up in just a month or so. My how time flies. I joined as a young teenager so you can only imagine how much my life has changed since then. In fact, if I remember right I was member #76 when I registered.

Been hangin out here for almost 9 years and as George and Richard have mentioned, we've shared a brew or two. George and I attended a couple minor league baseball games here in West Michigan (I even sat on the visitors side!) and Richard (rjfvillarosa) and I have vacationed together several times as he mentioned. I spoken to Brian in Texas a couple times on the phone to bail me out of a jam and I used to hang out quite a bit in the pcm channel and got to know several of the guys on a more personal basis. Tin and I pm'd and im'd quite a bit when I was learning the "art" of overclocking. He was the master and I was the student - he still is the master.
