head scratcher for the day
One of my clients (who does a lot of federal business) sent me this.
The National Weather Service (part of NOAA) needs 40,000 rounds of pistol ammunition? Last time I checked thunderstorms, tornadoes and hurricanes can't be defeated by gunfire.

Interesting. I wish I could get free target practice ammunition, it gets expensive, especially with the wife into it now. I am probably going to pull the trigger on a machine and make my own.

It depends on your ammo type and the availability of the brass.
I ran the numbers on 9mm and found that it would take approximately 10,000 rounds of 9mm (not including my time) just to break even (i just paid $215/1000 rounds of new factory ammo). The guys I shoot with say the number is much lower when it comes to .45 |

Loading amo sucks unless a buddy is over and you're drinking a lot of beer.

Mine is .45. My brother in law would be the one making them actually. I would be buying the machine and initial setup. I do not have any spare time and he has loads. We were thinking about getting it this or next weekend. That was after we went through a few hundred rounds or more last Monday. We have been collecting all our shells for the past couple of years, so we are set there.

the advice that I hear given all the time is don't skimp on the equipment. spend the money up front for good stuff and you'll reap the benefits for a long time. If you are going to do a lot, spend the money on a progressive reloading press, it does all of the steps on a single machine.

I don't reload but everyone I know or have spoken to that does reload either has a Dillon press or wishes that they had bought a Dillon. From what i understand the warranty and customer service is unbeatable.
PS anyone else having trouble with the link?

Works fine. Dillon sounds right, he said the name but I do not recall exactly.

If you have the money then Dillon makes the best press on the market and their customer service should be in a text book for every other company in the world to study. However if you dont want to spend 600+ on a 5 station press then look at the hornady lock n load. Its the same price as dillons 4 station press and they are highly recommended also. The biggest complaint I have ever heard about the hornady LNL is that its not a dillon which is saying something. If I was going to choose again and was looking in the $400 range then I would probably get the hornady LNL over the dillon 550 just for the extra station and the fact that the LNL discards spent primers through a tube into the trash.
