Wonder What This Is??
I got a Swann Outback mounted facing just toward rear gate and all I ever get is dog taking his leak or galbud taking out trash. Got these awhile back late/early one morning. First one shows a shadow and then gone. Camera set to record every 5 seconds. For reference, I got some of galbud doing her thing. Timestamp is obvious. Weird. Wonder what shadow is? Btw, it only takes pics of movement.

So, do the archives still have my post "Would you do this". Imagine my having a camera or two in the attic for all that. OMG

From this post you can view pic 1 and 2 back and forth. You can see the walnut trees branches move from some wind.
The shadow could be a bug on the flash or even a branch from the tree you mounted it on. |

So if you have a business where you need an employee who has more brawn than brains then hire him. Bigfoot would probably be good at doing things like changing out truck tires and building rock gardens. With a little training he might even make a good defensive lineman for the Cowboys.

Whatever it is, the shadow is the same angle as all other shadows, so it's between your light source and to the right of your camera.
If I had to guess, I'd say it's a person, wearing a coat. |

About 50' to right and behind is outside floodlight shining towards here and to rear of yard. In between is my truck parked inside fence/gate. Someone would have to jump the fence to get into yard. Weird. I'm mounting another outback camera on same pole and have it face the truck. Lots of tailgates stolen but mine is locked and not worth much if they have to tear it off.

Print the picture and do what it takes to recreate the shadow.

Spent the night mounting more cameras. Weird thinking about sleeping with things wandering around the yard at night. Buds have seen feral hogs out yonder way in country using same as I'm using. I'll nab the next one and not just a shadow next time.

Sarge, consider getting a one or more of these alert systems...
Wireless Driveway Alert & Driveway Alarm System They go on sale all the time for as low as $12. On the outside of the box there should be a sticker indicating the CH#. If you buy more than one, make sure you get different channels. This way you can tell which one was triggered. This type of alert system has a range of about 30 feet. Animals as small as a squirrel will set it off. It would serve to alert you as soon as there is any activity in your yard. The sensor unit takes a 9V battery which lasts about 3 months. The alarm unit takes C batteries which last a year or more. You can even paint the sensor to camouflage it. To avoid false alarms, just make sure you mount it on something stable enough not to sway in the wind. It's not to replace the cameras, but rather to enhance your security system. Unless you have many small animals in your yard, I think this will give you some peace of mind and help you to sleep better. ---pete--- Last edited by Petef56; 01-30-2013 at 02:45 AM. |
