Most of the nation yawns because we are a nation that is infatuated with sports and Hollywood and most don't know what going private means. If Justin Bieber bought Dell it would be huge news.

When a company goes private they can shift capital from paying out dividends on a quarterly basis to where capital is more needed within the company. This can be beneficial to the company long term. From a consumers perspective it's hard to say how things might get better. Computers are a commodity now with plenty of competition which causes very thin profit margins. If the company is not holding a lot of cash, then this makes it more difficult to make big changes.

I have had two great dell computers in my time.. The first is retired Dimension 8200 after 10yrs of service. The second Dell precision 370 about 5yrs old still going strong.. Had a couple of laptops to and had no issues.. Haven't bought once since, so can't comment on their quality..

Between me and the rest of my family, we have 4 Dell laptops and 3 desktops, nothing wrong with any of them. The newest one is about 3 years old FWIW.

In my experience Dell's do one of two things, run for years with minor/no problems or are useful for lemonade .
No in between.

The only Dell I have ever owned was an old Latitude (laptop).

It was not so good....power brick failed, CD drive would not stay locked in, the screen had issues and finally the motherboard failed. It was only a couple of years old.
