I'm somewhat baffled by how exactly this works. When you think about it, just guessing here, if the Coke bottle is approximately 9" in length, and the camera is 18" from the bottle, the light pulse has actually already reached the end of the bottle but still only half way to the camera itself. As such, the event has already happened before the camera has actually started to record it, even at a baffling trillion frames per second.

I think that you have to think about the different paths and time-distances that the photons from the same light source take in reaching the receptor in the camera. Light can and does slow through different mediums as well.

I understand that portion of it... I just find it baffling that the tech is there to actually record light in motion.

As a Texas boy who had difficulty with junior high and high school algebra, actually flunked both, but seeing how the football coach was the teacher and graded on the curve, you must understand I have no idea what you're discussing, although the pic/movie is awesome and have shared.
