I Will Apply
Imagine being the first colonists on Mars. But no cell service or internet. I will submit my application though, if bob does. I don't want to be lonely. For $38 app fee, I'll pay for both. No use in asking glc to join us - he has to run PCM here on earth.
78,000 apply to leave Earth forever to live on Mars - Science

Lets see. No water. No breathable air. Sandstorms. Cant farm. Deadly fallout from the sky. Even if mining was possible there is no element/compound (mine able) that would be profitable.
I would rather move to Syria.

If you move to Syria you might as well be on Mars.

Mars would never work for me. Even at the speed of light the lag would be a few minutes for multiplayer games. I wouldn't have a chance.

Possibly a new technology for multiplayer games would be developed. It would be more like playing chess, thinking many moves ahead, and batching that set of moves. So in essence the game is played in the space halfway between Earth and Mars. They think new technology developed for the mission will finance the mission along with TV rights. Ok Not. ![]() It is insane to think people will live on Mars in the near future. |

So they are supposed to make much of the money by putting it all on TV. I guess if the ratings slump there will be no money to send them food and other supplies.
![]() Remember the 1976 movie Network? They might want to call the rocket "The SS Howard Beale" |

Besides, we have not found a solution for isolating people from cosmic rays....8 miles of atmosphere does wonders for that problem.

While redundant, the “SS Steely Dan” would be about as good as the SS Minnow depending on ones preferences.

Are you talking about that guy jerking and eating a corned beef and Swiss cheese sandwich in a theater while watching True Grit? I forget his real name.

Wow. I wonder what would be the bigger disappointment. The film Prometheus or the one way trip to Mars.

There is speculation that a breathable atmosphere on Mars could be created. Mars atmosphere is 95% CO2, which plants need. Plants breathe CO2 which produce oxygen...and so on and so forth. But what a waste of Earth's resources it would take to do this. We need to work on our own problems here before we create more problems on another planet. Maybe only after humans can prove they can work out our own problems here should we consider colonizing another planet? What would be the point of creating more human nature caused problems millions of miles away? As the human race, we can't get our act together here as it is.
