You Take Care

Be my last time to preach as getting old. I never miss a chance anywhere the past year though because the subject is serious. Believe me, I have had my audiences, old folks cafeteria dinners, VFW, DAV, and talking about shaking heads. When you go against and contradict the well established stuff that's been pounded into folks' heads for past 20 years, it's something. 2 brothers, one who died of supposed massive heart attack, other a quadruple bypass a year ago, and myself with a triple bypass a year ago, all young'uns, what happened? I am working on a paper to show that all heart, cholesterol tests are bs. I had 2 very inclusive tests from February to April and was passed. Then chest pain and triple bypass, echos (sonograms) and 2 stress tests were ok. BS. Take care of yourself as you see fit...

Wow Sarge! That is amazing. You passed all tests and then the ticker just about gave out on you? I'm curious how soon after the tests were done did you start having problems?

You should also give us access to your reports when you're thru with them.

When your wife says "Mow the lawn", and it makes you so tired that you argue with her, you probably should see the doctor.

How Does Coronary Artery Disease Develop?

From a young age, cholesterol-laden plaque can start to deposit in the blood vessel walls. As you get older, the plaque burden builds up, inflaming the blood vessel walls and raising the risk of blood clots and heart attack. The plaques release chemicals that promote the process of healing but make the inner walls of the blood vessel sticky. Then, other substances, such as inflammatory cells, lipoproteins, and calcium that travel in your bloodstream start sticking to the inside of the vessel walls.

Eventually, a narrowed coronary artery may develop new blood vessels that go around the blockage to get blood to the heart. However, during times of increased exertion or stress, the new arteries may not be able to supply enough oxygen-rich blood to the heart muscle.
Coronary Artery Disease: Causes, Symptoms, Treatments

In other words - a low cholesterol level doesn't mean you don't have cholesterol in your system.

Smoking and or lack of exercise also contribute to coronary artery disease.

Low cholesterol is really not the issue. It is more important to make sure the ratio of ldl to hdl is 3 to 1. Our body can not make hdl so we must get it from foods. If we don't our body will produce ldl and knock the ratio out of whack. High levels is not good but keep an eye on that ratio.

Yeah, I spent past year getting information overloaded on the subject. About half of heart patients had good cholesterol. One cardiac surgeon kept having guys come back in a year or two for another bypass. They had been on a strict cholesterol plan, exercise, had lost weight, the whole 9 yards, yet they had inflammation. Insulin resistance, sugar, carbs, etc. This book blew my mind:

The Great Cholesterol Myth: Why Lowering Your Cholesterol Won't Prevent Heart Disease-and the Statin-Free Plan That Will: Jonny Bowden, Stephen Sinatra: 9781592335213: Amazon.com: Books

MYTHS VS. FACTS

Myth–High cholesterol is the cause of heart disease.
Fact–Cholesterol is only a minor player in the cascade of inflammation which is a cause of heart disease.

Myth–High cholesterol is a predictor of heart attack.
Fact–There is no correlation between cholesterol and heart attack.

Myth–Lowering cholesterol with statin drugs will prolong your life.
Fact–There is no data to show that statins have a significant impact on longevity.

Myth–Statin drugs are safe.
Fact–Statin drugs can be extremely toxic including causing death.

Myth–Statin drugs are useful in men, women and the elderly.
Fact–Statin drugs do the best job in middle-aged men with coronary disease.

Myth–Statin drugs are useful in middle-aged men with coronary artery disease because of its impact on cholesterol.
Fact–Statin drugs reduce inflammation and improve blood viscosity (thinning blood). Statins are extremely helpful in men with low HDL and coronary artery disease.

Myth–Saturated fat is dangerous.
Fact–Saturated fats are not dangerous. The killer fats are the transfats from partially hydrogenated oils.

Myth–The higher the cholesterol, the shorter the lifespan.
Fact–Higher cholesterol protects you from gastrointestinal disease, pulmonary disease and hemorrhagic stroke.

Myth–A high carbohydrate diet protects you from heart disease.
Fact–Simple processed carbs and sugars predispose you to heart disease.

Myth–Fat is bad for your health.
Fact–Monounsaturated and saturated fats protect you from metabolic syndrome. Sugar is the foe in cardiovascular disease.

Myth–There is good (HDL) cholesterol and bad (LDL) cholesterol.
Fact–This is over-simplistic. You must fractionate LDL and HDL to assess the components.

Myth–Cholesterol causes heart disease.
Fact–Cholesterol is only a theory in heart disease and only the small component of LP(a) or “bb shot” LDL predisposes one to oxidation and inflammation.
