Once upon a time, the desktop PC reigned. Then came the notebook. Then, tablets came along and wiped the floor with both the desktop and the notebook, and sent the entire PC industry into a freefalling tailspin. But could the reign of the tablet be a short-lived one? People like choice. It is not often that one technology completely replaces another. It is usually the case that when a new technology or idea comes along that it is an addition to and not a replacement of.

I think the article is relating the tablet to the hybrid in a similar fashion as the lazer disc to the compact disc. It does happen, but not often, and probably not this time.
