Screensaver CPU usage
Is it a good idea to have a screensaver that uses a lot of cpu power?
I was wondering if the cpu gets hotter when it is doing more work. The aquarium screensaver looks nice but uses 100% of the CPU! Rich Tomlin |

On windows xp, ctrl, alt delete brings up task manager.
This can show everything such as as cpu usage, free pyhsical memory, etc, and create a graph of it over time. This allows you to monitor everything happening as you run various applications. The aquarium screensaver uses 100% as do other 3d texture screensavers on my 1.4Gig athlon. Whereas a basic screnn saver uses about 2-3%! Does it matter? I guess if I have programs running in the background but I think the screen saver would just slow right down to allow the program the cpu. The aquarium one looks so good I might just live with it. As far as I know you can adjust the CPU usage for background tasks (eg. screensavers) just check out the help file in your start menue and you should find the setting
