Maybe this will help you quit smoking. Remember that you are a smoker and always will be a smoker same as an alcoholic will always be an alcoholic. I am a smoker who has not had a cigarette in 14 years, but I know if I ever lite one up that 14 years is all for nothing. After you're addicted, it's like with potato chips, you can never have just one.
For people who have never smoked it is an addiction that is actually painful to stop. You teenagers out there please, peer presure be damned, never start. I guarantee you will want to quit oneday, and by then the damage will have been done. You will be hooked! This is the single most effective way to add to the quality of life that you have and will have in the future. According to my doctor (I had bypass surgery at age 43 because of cigarettes), there is an ingredient in tobacco smoke that when it enters the bloodstream makes everything sticky. Fats and other stuff then start sticking to the walls of your arteries rather than being washed away like a nonsmoker arteries would do. As a computer technician, I can always tell the machines that belong to smokers. The dust has stuck to the vent slots and has to be brushed away, not blown away like most others. Now if I could just figure out how to lose weight. Quitting smoking was hard, but I swear it was a piece of cake, relative to taking off pounds. Well I'll put my soapbox away for now!

Well I'm a non-smoker, a non-drinker, so what are my wishes for the new year ?
For me point 2: More work in less time and point 4 of course. . . ![]() And of course that my PC continues to work well. Intel PIII + BX chipset, and now Win98SE gets replaced by WinXP home. . . RJ

Well, I kept 1 of my 2 new years resolutions for 2001. The first being to start a savings account and finish the year with at least $1000 in it. Well, bills are paid and I'm sitting at $1500 which I thought was pretty good considering I bought a new car in October. Well, new car to me anyway, from beater land yatch (1986 Pontiac Safari station wagon) to rocketship (1999 Pontiac Sunfire GT). The second resolution was to find a new job. I am currently employed as a tech in a retail computer shop, but I hate doing retail. Sooner or later I'll land what I feel to be a career, maybe in 2002. A tip for you smokers, this has worked for quite a few of my friends. Get yourself a 2 litre bottle of your favorite soda. When you have polished it off, do not wash it out. Now, faithfully carry this bottle with you everywhere you go and use it for your cigarette ashes and butts. The most I have seen anyone be able to fill the bottle is 3/4 of the way up with ashes. The look and smell become so bad that even the smokers tend to get sick of it. It may not work for everybody, but if you really want to quit, it's worth a try.

Just three wishes:
1) Get married. 2) Position my new trademark computers within the national market. 3) That the PC Gaming Show I'm working on will be a success.

Hpro, you forgot retirement in your poll.
Hopefully this year for me.Hal, Even though I smoke, (gonna attempt to quit), I only smoke outside, not even in the garage, so my puter' has the easy dust to blow away. Kassia, I third that one. Happy New Year everyone and thanks for all the help and above all, the great friendship!!! Carl Last edited by Kubie; 12-31-2001 at 06:44 PM. |
