What about pets?

Do you guys like pets?
If so, what kind of pets?

Please note that the rodent you're holding in your hand right now doesn't qualify as a pet for this poll.

I have three dogs, two rottweilers and one lab/rott mix. I like most pets except cats and my dogs feel the same way.

I've got 3 dogs, 1 Border Collie, and 2 Fieldbred English Springer Spainiels (who have to work for a living )

My daughters tried having a cat, but we couldn't afford the prozac it needed because of the dogs

I have a solid white cat found on the interstate highway when she was a kitten. Until then I din't have a cat. I absolutely love her. She affectionately tolerates my dogs, a boxer and a shar-pei, who were here first. From the beginning she never showed any fear of them so they accepted her with a shrug. Both dogs are very loving so I think they just saw Pearl as something else to love. I also have 2 horses. I have had a potbelly pig and a goat.
If I were to have only one pet, it would have to be a boxer dog if it couldn't be Pearl.

I have a retired racing greyhound named Otto, and a fish tank. Aquariums are fun to set up and learn about. Retired races make great pets and I recommend them to anyone responsible looking for a canine companion. Years ago, I had 3 ferrets which can also be fun pets.

Dogs are the superior pet because they can eat cats. (all except those little yaping rat-dogs. those kind of dogs are just worthless creatures)

I agree, that squirrel is quite "manly".

A prelude to mating or a simple advert to "consenting" adults?

Like both cats and dogs, but wife hates cats....

So i have a puppy...

http://www.geocities.com/mbossman2/Maddie.html

We got her from one of the local rescue shelters here in the Raleigh area

http://www.bfpa.org/

If you are going to get a pet, please check with your local pet rescue agencies or the local pound, there are many dogs and cats and birds and iguanas and llamas and emus out there looking for an owner.

If you can locate a shelter in your area go here:

http://www.petfinder.org/

Always remember and never forget to 1) spay or neuter your pet unless you plan on breeding & 2) a pet is a lifetime (theirs) commitment and not to be entered into lightly.

My vote goes to the dogs! My last dog, Rusty, was an Irish Setter. The current landlord doesn't allow pets, so that just makes me want a dog (or 3)all the more.

I have an Australian Shepherd that's too smart for his own good, a cockatiel, and a tadpole that's taking forever to turn into a frog. Anything is likely to reside in this household, animals just seem to find their way to our house. Dogs are the best, IMHO, and they're such good listeners.

I've had an aquarium for several years and my favourite fishes for quite a while have been the american cyclids [sp] ... there are two Jack Daniels and a Plecaustomus [sp] [it's a type of catfish] in the tank. As for other pets, there is one cat, 'Patches', and one gerbil, 'Grey Tail' in our household. Patches likes to stand in front of the monitor once in a while and I have to remember not to leave the PC unatended while in the registry ... aside from that, she's a good kitty.

I have a dog that I rescued from the local pound. She is a Queensland Heeler aka Blue Heeler.

She was tagged as a "Stray" and was on doggie death row when I found her.

This dog WILL NOT leave any further than 2 feet from me AT ALL TIMES so I cannot imagine her being a "Stray".

Her name is Pepper and she loves her Daddy.

Best damned dog I have EVER been owned by.

I have two cats: Mulder and Bacall, and one fish: Othello. Mulder is all black, a short haired, small cat. He's about 3 1/2 and I acquired him when my ex-roomie moved out and didn't take him with her. Bacall I adopted from the animal shelter to keep Mulder company. Bacall is named after Lauren Bacall. She's a medium length haired tabby, lokos like a racoon cat. Both my cats are very friendly but both a little skittish, too. My fish is a chocolate moor (a fancy goldfish). He live alone in a ten gallon tank. He was a gift for Christmas and I am grwoing very fond of him. My cats like to watch him because he's the exact size of their favorite cat toys. Right now my fish is showing his breeding spots, so it's confirmed he's a he. Othello is a fairly common name for this type of fish, but I thought i was being original.

cats rule and dogs drool.

dogs have a master and cats have staff.

I have 1 dog, half Samoyed and half Siberian Husky bred to pull sleds but abandoned. At 12 weeks old I was his 4th owner. I have 2 cats both of which were saved also. Princess Diana was a animal shelter repeat offender and Miss Belle her mother was only 10 months old. Belle is a year old and tinyer than most kittens. My dog hates my cats but they are in charge. He is 125 lbs and has numerous times found out how sharp their claws are and now just pretends they aren't here. I have a soft heart for pound animals I can't help it.

I love dogs! We have a 2.5 year old Chocolate Lab named Aspen. She has an attitude and is spoiled like crazy - but that is OK because she never destroyed any furniture or ate any shoes.

Here are a couple of pictures -click here- that we put up on the web for relatives and friends back in Germany.

Fish are harder to take of than you might imagine. I know that my cats will never starve to death or overeat themselves to death. If the house stinks from paint fumes or perfume, they just leave. But a fish must be monitored regularly. I've gotta feed my fish twice as often as I feed my cats. I've gotta change 50-80% of the tank water weekly (I guess that can be compared to changing the cats' litterbox). I've gotta test the water at least once a week. And I have to replace the filter once a month. If I leave for a week vacation, I have to buy an automatic feeder or fast my fish because too often fish sitters will overfeed a fish. Pet sitters can't as easily overfeed my cats because the cats eat until they're full and that's that. Even if the cats overate, they'd just vomit. If a fish overeats (consistently) it dies.

I think you'd be better off with a rock than a fish.

I used to have rats when I was a kid. They are great pets because they're very smart (smarter than hamsters or ginea pigs or gerbils) and they're less territorial than hamsters (so you can keep two in one cage without problems). They don't usually bite (like hamsters do when you wake them up from a nap or like mice will if they don't get held often) and you can train em if you want. Rats are more affectionate than other small rodents, IMO. I love rats. If I could handle more animals, I'd have a pet rat. As it is I have my hands full with two cats, a fish, and a boyfriend (yeah, those make pretty good pets, too). Oh, and one of my roomies has a cat, too, which she won't feed, so I take care of that one, too.

Male hamsters never bite. Females almost always.
