SVCD problem
Hello all,
I've still a problem with creating a SVCD. I code my video and audio streams with TMPGEnc and multiplex them with bbMPEG (because TMPGEnc does not take advantage of the maximum muxing rate for the SVCD). But when multiplexing the streams bbMPEG shows me many buffer underflows. But they should only occur if the video data rate is higher than the muxing rate, which is not in my case. So I get problems when I 'jump' through the multiplexing video stream of my SVCD. Video and audio isn't synchon anymore, so the video playback starts to become jerky. I've used the following parameters for my SVCD: video data rate: 2526 kbps (max., because of VBR) audio data rate: 192 kbps -------------------------- mpeg stream data rate: 2718 kbps (max.) + 70,8 kpbs overhead = 2788,8 kpbs complete data rate (maximum for SVCD). The muxing rate also is 2788,8 kbps VBV buffer size = 224 KB Has anyone an idea what's wrong and how to multiplex the svcd stream correctly (audiyoda, I'm sure you do )TIA, RJ

RJ,
I don't play much with SVCD -- really no call for it. Region 1 DVD PLayers (North American) are hard pressed to play then and beyond that, I've run into some problems getting them to play properly for people who are using the DVD drive on their computer. From what I know of SVCD, all your settings are correct. Maybe you can find a replacement for bbMPEG and compare. Beyond that, I don't really know. -Craig |

Thanks for the reply.
So it seems that I should look around for another good multiplexer or trying to lower the bitrate a bit (maybe bbmpeg uses another overhead than 70,8kbps). I ripped a vob file off a dvd, demultiplexed it and multiplexed it again with bbmpeg, and it worked perfectly. Hmm, maybe the SVCD standard isn't so cleary implemented in the encoding software as the DVD standard. . . RJ |
