Hello,

CPU: Intel Celeron, Intel P4 socket 478, AMD Athlon XP and AMD Duron
Mainboard: Abit (www.abit.com.tw), Asus (www.asus.com), EpoX (www.epox.com)
CD-writer: Plextor (www.plextor.com), Ricoh (www.ricoh.com)
Hard drive: IBM (http://www.storage.ibm.com/hdd/prod/deskstar.htm)
Sound card: Creative SBLive! or SB Audigy! (www.creative.com)
Graphics card: ATI Radeon (www.ati.com)

. . of course just my opinions

At the time there are (almost) only movies on DVD, so if you don't want to watch movies with your PC you don't need a DVD drive. A normal CD-ROM-drive will be fine.
DivX is a codec based on MPEG-4. It's high-compressed rather than high-quality.

Hi Kiro!
First, I'll answer your last question first with this site:
http://www.divx.com/support/newbies.php

Processors: Intel or AMD are good choices.
Motherboards: Asus, MSI, Epox, Tyan and others. Check out http://www.tomshardware.com and http://www.motherboards.org
Good luck. If you start looking around on this site for information, you'll find that you will feel strangely compelled to build your Personal Companion yourself!
