I was tired, so why did I click "YES"
I don't know why, but I loaded Internet Explorer 6 and all heck is breaking loose. I'm getting script errors and this program has performed an illegal function and will shut down. What have I done. Years of no problems and now I have to fix something. I should never stay up past my bedtime and play. Any suggestions? hiway pre-Thanks

I must be lucky because IE6 has worked great for me. The only suggestion I have is to ininstall and try again. I know there is some on this site that can put you on the right track.

Yeah, it happens all the time ... all I can say is that IE6 works fine and go for Carlgif's suggestion.

if this is on win98 then a SCANREG /RESTORE from DOS PROMPT will do the trick - if Win2K WinXP - boot press F8 select last good known configuration - also should help - or if it doesn't help then Reinstall IE 6.0 .. you have to Delete the Program files\Windows Update folder first..otherwise IE6.0 will not install again..Or use the repair option of it..Control Panel Add/Remove Programs..

In response, I tried with fingers crossed
I tried with SCAN/REG RESTORE, but to no avail.
Then using the repair from ADD/DELETE software on IE 6. The error window has as yet to re-appear. We'll see. I'll update this if all goes well or if I still have a problem. I do so appreciate the help offered by you guys. thanks again. hiway |

Didn't help
I'm still getting an explorer window error. It states that "This program has performed an illegal function and will be shut down. If the problem persists contact the program vendor."
I'm still looking for a reason and a fix. I'll update this if I can find a reason and fix. I'm not wanting to uninstall and re-install Win98 until I can get a specific for this series of events. Hardheaded and single-minded I guess. thanks for the help hiway |

Reinstalling Windows is not necessary for only this minor problem considering it's the only app causing an illegal operation ... try that step again.

Doc Watson
No end in sight for the error messages. I did find something called Dr. Watson and it has pointed to that pasted below. I'm assuming that a driver/file (me, I dunno), has been wrongly altered etc.
I'm posting this with the thought that maybe I will have another system built before/by the time I clear these problems up. Along with the above, another problem deals with the internet explorer window. When clicking on the Search button on the tool bar, no search parameters appear. Using the set up search/customize button brings up "script errors on page". This in particular has been occuring for some time. Running out of blood here. thanks for the suggestions thus far. hiway -------------------- Adobe Type Manager has altered Windows system files. I think you should remove and try to reinstall IE 6. I use it with no problems whatsoever. Don't reinstall Windows 98 it isn't the problem. I use IE 6 on my home and work machines. I have Windows 98SE and Windows 2K at work and Windows ME at home and it works good on both.

Exasperated, but patient
I'm sure due to an error or mis-click on my part, that nothing has helped and now problems of a deeper sort are appearing.
It's time to have one more adept at this than myself, to sit in front of this screen and work back to the first problems and head forward. I do appreciate the help, links, they should have helped, but I do fear that it was me and not the help that failed. I will be back. hiway. to another day, we will |

Grateful, but still trying
I'm still having problems, but well know that I'm having to back up and fix a few things I botched from the get-go. I do so appreciate the offerings. All have been right on the money for the fix.
I am still finding it amazing that all who participate within this forum to be so free with their time and effort. It is truly refreshing to be among so many with so much willingness to help. It reminds me of other times and places I had almost forgotten about. Kudos to all, and well know that I'm still trying to unhose these tiny errors. I'm close. I will kiss the pig. I've found out and learned more and having a blast. later hiway |
