Best 404 error EVER!

http://thcnet.net/error/404.php

It's actually, to the best of my memory, a perfect recreation/port; I suppose I could find the original on one of my CDs and verify...

BTW, if anyone wants any or all of the text based Zork games I can give them to you.

These things are so ancient I'm sure they qualify as abandonware, but some of them are damn fun. You can't be a computer nerd without having played Zork, at least, it is a classic.

BTW, text based games I own (I think either Beyond Zork or Zork Zero uses some graphics, but the interface is still all text) and which I can give people (all of them, total, would be ~3 MB):

Zork series (in order of release):
Zork - The Great Underground Empire
Zork II - The Wizard of Frobozz
Zork III - The Dungeon Master
Beyond Zork - The Coconut of Quendor
Zork Zero - The Revenge of Megaboz

Planetfall series:
Planetfall
Stationfall

Others:
The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
A Mind Forever Voyaging
Starcross
Suspended

If a lot of people ask for these, I may wait until I'm back on DSL and put them on an FTP server.

I'd love copies of the games if you could do that. How big are the files? Emailable? orcmonkey@ameritech.net

Thanks

All the games, together, are 2.8 MB, I just checked. They'll zip to about 1.8 MB.

Being as the newest of these is 15 years old, there should be no copyright issues with putting them up. I've got to go to a movie in a few minutes, but I think I'll zip these guys, and put them on a web account later tonight.

Speaking of text based games, has anyone played Earth 2025 ?
I played it for a while, really involved. It can turn into a job.

All the abovementioned games are up, here:

http://www.sit.wisc.edu/~pmvictorey/textgames.zip

Unzip and enjoy. It's about 1.7 MB, so even on slow dialup it shouldn't take more than 15 mins.

BTW, for those who want to play Zork Zero, you need materials from the game box to finish the game (unless you cheat).

Luckily, high quality scans of all the materials (you need all of them, too) are available here:

Yeah, I still remember the game. My favorite was:
You are in a room that reeks of gas
So I type in:
Light match
The message that I get back is:
What kind of idiot lights a match in room that reeks of gas

What a bunch of old Nerds we are.

Other infocom games

If you want to play all the other Infocom games (which, despite being 15 years old and no longer sold by Activision, the company which owns the rights, are not public domain), check out http://infocom.elsewhere.org/
